Designing an exhaust- Y pipe and all

I posted this in the main section: but I want to make sure our Canadian groupies see this.

I would love to hear feed back and even open my ears for suggestions on how people want exhausts. So far the number one request is;

AN INEXPENSIVE Y-PIPE
Low interior vehicle droning noise
exact fit
sound
price

Who knows I might even have some BETA units created for trial basis at a reduced price. Really depends on the interest. BTW I am also looking to design other models.

Thanks,

Jerry

Great thoughts Jerry......

What's the thinking for dynos to see how efficiently these mods work?

I'd love to see how much better my M exhaust is, but that few ponies is hard to feel.

any suggestions/locations of dynos/ ?????

Colin.

Hi Jerry,

For catbacks:

I think a VERY similar system to the Stillen (new gen) catback with same or improved HP with slight lower sound levels would be a perfect system in my world. Polished rear section & and rolled tips will be a nice finish touch.

For single pipe systems:

YPIPE - a design similar or better to Tanabe or JIC Bullet (pic attached)
MIDPIPE - similar to Fujitsubo or with a resonator similar to Stillen catback that bolts up to OEM perfectly

Keeping it under $750 would be nice and a selection of various tips too.

my friend dave works for vibrant - i asked him for an "official response" that i can post on the board:
Jason,

Vibrant could certainly produce this sort of thing for you. There may be some issues, however, with our required quantities for custom products. On a product such as a Y-pipe we require a minimum order qty of 50pcs. If your group can commit to that, then it is certainly something we could explore. Please be sure to discuss with your group the issue of re-orders as well, as they would have to be in minimums of 50pcs. It does make a lot of projects "one-chance only" for car clubs such as yourselves.

I've been exploring some options for producing smaller quantity orders, but won't be able to release and information for likely another month. If my current plan does work out, we would be able to produce smaller 10pc orders, but again this isn't anywhere near 'concrete' yet. You would be welcome to share this with your club, if they'd like to 'wait and see'. But please be sure to tell them that this is very preliminary and to expect a "not going to happen" response as opposed to getting their hopes up.

I think you should make your club members aware of the fact that we already have a Y-pipe that we produce for our 350z system. I will need to check the pipe sizing on the inlets, but I know the Y-pipe ends with 3" piping. We could potentially create a part number for the Y-pipe and use the one we currently produce for your club production. Since the development and jig costs have already been taken care of for this piece, we could lower the minimum order quantity to 25pcs.

Attached is a rather fuzzy photo of the 350z Y-pipe. If this interests your club I can take a proper photo with some measurements.

Let me know what the response is,

-Dave

I'd be interested if the price is right. Hopefully Y-Pipe will be lighter than the stock.

A well designed cat back system, without the droning issues of the Borla & Stillen would interest me.

Right now I have an NFC Y-pipe, coupe midi & HKS muffler.
I like the sound, but it doesn't match the performance that I had from the Borla TD cat back.

The Borla was good except for a bad drone between 1800 to 2200 rpm.
With the AT that was right in the normal cruise rpm.
Drove me nuts after about a month.

Thanks. I remember you saying something about the coupe mid but forgot the rest. You're right about the cruising range. That would be pretty well the same thing with the M6.

I'm happy with the OE sound and have a hard time going with anything any louder. I would like some more performance though.

custom exhaust

Hey Jerry,

I have just moved, and now is located even closer to your shop lol..
but well, if you are really heading into a direction for a custom built
exhaust (Sedan? and if things work out..), i would be happy to be
the test vehicle.

However, please bear in mind that i have the Stillen Catback..and had
sold the stock exhaust (****...)
Keep me informed ! and Good luck !

Cheers,
Godmans

p.s. if you have to do some flow dynamic modelling, maybe someone in the campus can ya out lol!

I have recently spoken to my supplier, and it looks like we will be proceeding with a BETA system, I need to have lined up an order for about 100 systems!!!!! Phew!
So hence the questions. I want to make something that will have the gain, without the droning. Keep u all posted.
