G35 = ChiaPet????
G35 = ChiaPet????
This past week, I had to take a business trip to Ottawa and was actually really looking forward to my first highway drive of more than 4 hours.
Everything was incredible and the car just excels as a highway tourer. As you all know. What makes this trip interesting enough to use up precious bandwidth?? The making of a ChiaPet is what makes this worthwhile.
You see, I was coming home, at about 10am on Thursday and as I neared Kingston, I noticed a work crew on the westbound shoulder hydro-seeding the berm to the north of the highway. As I looked back to the roadway, I noticed what seemed like a trip through a swarm of locusts. My windshield was covered with whitish spots that I used the wipers on and did a fair job of clearing. Forgot to add that this hydro-seeding session was courtesy of another crew hydro-seeding the berm south of the east bound lane, or so they thought they were...
Fastforward to when I arrive at home. I notice what seems like spray paint on the front/side of the car. Take a look at the pics, you'll see what I mean. I went to my detailer and he tried a variety of products, but in the end it took about 10 minutes of agressive rubbing to clean up a square foot of bumper/fender. Obviously my detailer is going to bill me by the hour to do this job, but I'm just glad that it all comes off and doesn't appear to etch the paint or even leave anything at all.
I fully plan on sending in a claim request to the MTO once I get the work done and I expect to be fully reimbursed, so it's not the end of the world, but it sure is annoying.

Wow, that's incredible...the power of that stuff. It's like glue.
I had about 10,000 square feet of hydroseeding done to a large property I owned years ago and I remember the stuff all over the house brick and siding. I hosed it off almost immediately so it wasn't a problem.
G/L getting collecting your dough from these guys.

Yikes man, that would be annoying...
.
Shouldn't be hard to get reimbursement on that one..
You'd think for safety alone, the crews would have been more careful than that!
Let us know how you do, and g/l

Car went into the detail shop today so it should look like new when done. Mind you, the employee that took my key said it should be done in an hour
I made certain to take him to the car and go over everything before leaving. I don't think he believes it will take an hour any longer...
I'll post 'after' pics when I get it back as well as keep you informed of the whole claims process.

Unbelievable!!! I'd be pissed to no end if that was my car.
I once drove next to a cement truck and caught some of the water spray that had some cement residue.
It took me 4 hours to get it off my windshield and roof off my previous G which was black as well...and that was very mild and water based. Anyway, I hope your detailer can get it off completely.

we had the roof re-done on our building about a month ago... and when i went to wash the car on the weekend i found hairlines of tar all over my car. came off pretty easy with some bug remover spray but man did it take forever. i was just glad that the paint wasn't harmed in any way. just be thankful it's just a nuissance then anything else.
Just picked up the G and everything looks great. I noticed a couple of spots that I'll have to spend a bit of time on, once I took the car out into the sun (never noticed it under the lights). They are mostly on the rubber surrounding the windshield and the grates in the front bumper, which of course must have driven the detailers nuts.
All in all, they did a very good job and I'm very satisfied. Now to forward the bill on to the gov'ment...
Here are the pics. Oh, and for anyone that's interested, the work was done by A1 (in particular, the University/Regina shop) and for a very reasonable price (IMO, considering they worked on it for 3/4 of the day). They used my Zaino stuff also.

Thanks guys. A1 definitely did an outstanding job, but then again, Chris (owner of A1) knew how important it was to me that the car looked great and it surely reflects their hard work.
I almost don't want to take the car out of the garage now as it just looks too good... almost better than when I bought it. Damn black!!!!! LOL!!!!
Again, thanks guys.

Anyone from the Kingston area that could give me a bit of help? I just spoke with Risk Management.... whatever the rest of the name is, about my claim for compensation and they want to know the exact location on the 401 that this overspray occurred.
Apparently they don't know who was doing this work as "they don't keep records".
I'm sure that I could id the spot if I drove out there and saw it, but I can't pick it out from a map.
Otherwise, I may be taking a road trip to Kingston...
