Gassing up problem
Went to gas up yesterday. The gas door release wouldn't work. A real problem. Then I remembered that I had read about it and the temp. fix on this form.
Yes, as the owner of the gas station made a move to put his swiss army knife into the G to pry the lid off, I firmly took hold of his wrist and asked to borrow the knife. I poped the trunk and used the blade to remove three black plugs so I could remove the trunk covers behind the fuel door. Lo an behold
there was the white lever. Pushed it and volla the door opened.
Gassed up and left.
When I got home I told my wife that all the time spent on this form is well spent. You never know when what you learn here will help you. I tried to find the post that shared this problem but couldn't. So I'll thank you all for the support you give to all of us.
Thanks Bros.

Haha,
That goes to prove that you don't need weapons to solve an issue.
Good thinking Sam.
BTW, you didn't mention if the fuel door still doesn't work or was it a temp issue.....
It's an easy fix for the dealer to replace the door actuator.
Colin.

my part came the other day to fix the problem, but i haven't picked it up yet.
easy fix though, its covered under warranty and you can install it yourself if you want.

That happened to me too, I was late for a very important meeting and needed some go go juice ASAP! I must have wasted 10minutes trying to open the fuel door... Looked like a loser sitting there trying to pat my head and lift one leg wondering what the combo was needed to open the door...
Tried every known combination of unlocking the doors, trunk... Anyhow, I finally decided to pry open the door with my finger tip and "key"... Luckily the door flexed enough and I continued to you pry on it then "POP" or rather "SNAP" this little gray composite piece of plastic with a 45 degree tip landed on the ground.
Then I realized this was the lock plunger. Put it in my pocket and have never had a problem since. I know having the lock feature is a nice piece of mind... but no car I ever owned had one and considering how ****ty this design was I didn't want it on my car either.
Glad you got yours fixed!

OK, so my fuel door would not open last night. It was stuck in the locked position. I tried everything from locking and unlocking the doors, but nothing worked. I probably looked pretty stupid at the gas station trying to open the door...I found a solution here, but since the car is under warranty and I had enough gas, I just took it to the dealer.
I was told that the actuator (sp?) was bad and needed to be replaced. It is located right behind the pin that locks the door. It didn't take more than 45 minutes. Probably something that I could do myself in the future. Maybe a bad design??? I guess the actuator would be continually active when the doors are unlocked. Would that put a strain on the part? I can see this part being replaced a few times over the life of the car....

Many different designs availabe.
Some like you speculate are electrically held.
Others are spring activated with a latch to hold position & a pulse to trigger.
The actuator freezes up, and seizes internally. This is a basic warranty covered component. In a flash if you are stranded, simply take a rag or cardboard place it on the trailing end where the actuator plunger resides. carefully take a screwdriver and pry the lid open - you may need to apply some force- The actuator plunger will snap, it is designed to do this. Fill your gas then make an appointment to have it replaced.
