Well, compared to cities like Detroit or NY, Toronto is a safe city. Yet, it is obvious that Toronto is currently running down the slope as there are more and more gun shots and murders..

With regards to how to deal with this.. i dun agree if they should blame the States, but the politicans should do something more effective.

For instance, they should start with BOTH

1) education
2) moderate forces.. like paying more money into police forces to give some hard time to those crack-heads on the streets and to stop the illegal gun-holders.. instead of giving Tax reduction for having more children which is BS, and thus making Parents never have the incentives to Educate their offsprings.

God, i dun wanna see any more innocent people being killed in Toronto..

I wholely agree with those of you that say that it starts at home. Common respect for the most part is NOT taught in the home and it seems to become the responsibility of schools -- which by school age it is almost too late.

IMO the overall value of human life has been reduced to something to be traded rather than respected. To further add to it... there is no longer a fear of consequence.

Government and the courts cannot control or regulate what is disappearing from our society... it starts at home.

Have to agree strongly with you BbyG35. There must be proper values instilled early on in life or these type of people will do what they do. They just don't seem to care about people or consquences. I hear about from my wife who is a school teacher and sees a lot of this complete lack of respect for people, rules and contributing to society.

No offence to people here, but I think we need capital punishment. I am sorry 16 17 year old caught with guns gets what juve. If they kill 15 years and free man. I say we need to be more like singapore, just spitting on the streets gets you canning and if you kill you should get the same outcome. THen maybe kids will start to be scare. I am just so pissed with all these killings shootings, I am sorry if I offend other people who feels differ but this is just my rage talking at the moment.

Gun violence is getting worse here in Vancouver, almost everyday there is some type of shooting. I guess some Liberal government blew 2 billion on a gun program to monitor law abiding citizens. I guess the criminals don't register guns. Its gonna get alot worse.

I want Canada back.

I think that the population as a whole should not focus on the hating and the fearing and the kicking the **** out of violent crime, but instead focus on living and portraying the peaceful society that we once had.

Lets all be lovey dovey and make it so intolerably suffocating for the thugs that they either adapt and accept, or leave.

Capital punishment has proven to be a huge failure in every country that uses it. It also seems to me to be very "un-Canadian". I do agree we need harsher sentencing and a more streamlined process regarding violent crime, but not capital punishment.

I would agree it would seem to be un Canadian but am not convinced it isn't warranted. By huge failure do you mean as a deterent or something else?

we actually have pretty stiff gun law penalties...where we fail is in using them to the extent that they should. Our judicial system is known for being very conservative in the sentences.

You mean "very liberal" in the sentences.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not...but if you are it all sounds too poetic. We are a peaceful society already but have a serious problem that need drastic measures. We can talk sense and discipline quicker into a dog than these thugs. You really think they care about our values and will respect any type of laws??? C'ommon!!!!

Capital punishment has its flaws...no doubt!! But it is not un-Canadian to protect our decent citizens that actually contribute to this great country from animals that deserve no less. Not protecting our citizens is UN-CANADIAN and INHUMAN.

BTW, if I come across blunt is because I'm fed up. But I don't intend to personally attack anybody's views as I respect everyone's. I'm simply sharing my feelings and views.
