I need a set of shoes and would value any suggestions/thoughts. These are tires that I've read others have used ( been reading lots of stuff from our bros. south of the 49th ) and are happy with.
Maybe if a few of us get together we can do a GB, eh?
Thanks in advance guys.
Jerry, you out there?

As I was doing my research I saw that I missed out on some interesting 18" rims (OEM) and tires in the sothern forums. Found these on Ebay. Has anyone bought and shipped rims and tires privately? Cost seems to be 150 USD for tires only with rims? If truth be told, what I really want is a fair price on good used rims (18's) with a strong season of rubber left.

The first one you listed there looks very good with 100% positive feedback, and the price seems reasonable too.
Only issue is the shipping from Cali to here.?????
I'm sure some of our more experienced members would have some suggestions here.
As I mentioned recently, I'll keep my ears open for a set more local.

I have the Falken GBR-451 245/45/18 's on my 2005 G35x ... They are great tires .. great traction and solid construction .. wear is good so far, though, I only have about 5K miles with them .... only slight negative is they are slightly noisey, but not much different then Mich Pilots.

Too bad you didn't take the set I offered a while ago. They only had 50 miles on them and sold them real cheap.

Sorry for seeming perhaps a bit harsh, guys, but I'm surprised after buying a $50K (Canadian, 40K US or so) car, that one would consider putting some of the aforementioned rubber between said vehicle and the road. Car and Driver just did a test of appropriate rubber. Picking based upon their observations may yeild a better choice than those identified. While that test is available online, the full info is not- no chart test data, just comments. To sum up, in order of performance, without including a double dose of cost of ownership bias, it went Advan Neova, PS2, Eagle F1, RE050. The BFGs were almost last in performance, the Contis were midpack. When you read online, rather than the printed copy, the rankings are heavily skewed by cost. Ref cost of ownership: not only did they punish good tires for costing more, but they also punished those same tires in the scores for having lower treadwear ratings. I'll add that one component that isn't captured is how well the tires stand the test of time within the wear-bars. (By that I mean that if a Gatorback still has half the tread depth left but has turned into a squeeling puck, and no longer offers any semblance of original performance, then that's no better than a tire that's on the wear bars after the same mileage but has yeilded great performance through its entire, albeit seemingly shorter life. If I am disappointed with my car's performance, half the time, were the savings worth it?). Whether one owns a sport sedan or sport coupe, unless one only use it for groceries, what would lead one to choose a non-performance tire? The only answer I can arrive at is someone that is replacing their tires monthly, following autocross thrashings as my friend does. If that's not the deal, then I'd recommend at least considering some quality tires. My own choice in a 19 would be the PS2. In an 18, the Neova, hands down. The Neova was created for the Elise. Ever wondered how much Lotus can thank Yoko for creating this beauty? At tire-rack's test facility, a 3 series sedan shod with the Neova ran their track 10% faster on that tire than ever before or thereafter on any other tire. By those who actually test, it is universally the current champ. Surprisingly, that performance is maintained at at very high percentage in the wet.
Cheers,
Derek

Is there a difference with respect to the fitment of Sedan rims/Coupe rims or Brembo vs. Non Brembo?
FYI Chico, that's two sets of rims I missed out on from you. Wayne's were the first ( gone before I new they were available ) and then those 18's. I just haven't been in the right place at the right time yet.

Thanks for your input Derek. I believe this is the tire test you mentioned.

You make good points.
ps
Can I run 4 245/45/18's on the G? Any handling problems?

Whatacar,
Glad to have put you onto the C&D test. Certainly, tirerack's test are of great value too. Ref the BFG C&D comments, now living in the Maritimes, and having grown up with the 401 cloudbursts of S. On. that stop TO traffic dead in it's tracks frequently every summer, any tire that is described as "spooky...felt like driving on ice...easy to overdrive in the wet.." is not a tire that I'm looking to put on my G.
2 of my bro-in-laws work for Michelin here in NS. Michelin owns BFG and Uniroyal. I can get those tires for myself at substantially reduced cost as a result. Despite this, the only ones I would consider are the PS (18s) or PS2s (19s). I'm still trying to figure out if I can swing some BBS 18s for my 05 so that I can hook up some Neovas. In the end, I think it'll be PS2s on the 19s. Hopefully, I can push out till spring of 07 before having to make the decision.
Cheers,
Derek

CtK,
Good grab- I note the vast improvement in wet handling-wow, big turnaround. Much better for soggy locations.
Thanks.
