One year with the 05 G35X

Well it has actually been almost 15 months since we purchased our G35X.
The car has been virtually trouble free in 30,000 km of driving. The only issue we had was the CD player quit at about 20.000 km last fall on our East Coast run. The unit was replaced with a new unit immeadiately at Guelph Infiniti. The downside is I still don't have the cds that were in the broken unit and it has been 4 months.( I just got a call from the Dealers this morning and they have located my defective player at the manufacturers where they return them and I should have my 6 cds in a couple of weeks ) 35Bill did you hear that!!!

We have not had any of the rattles some people talk about, and the brakes were just checked not long ago and they are giving us good service. I do have some brake dust build-up on the front rotors but apparently it's not as bad as previous years. My winter alloys are starting to get corroded but they are winter rims so what the heck.
My only other complaint is the seat controls on the driver's seat do get uncomfortable spome times where they apply pressure to the side of your leg.
I had a few coats of Zaino on the X for the past winter and it did seem much easier to clean up after cruising on the salty slushy roads (I am a Zaino Believer for sure)

I have recorded all gas fill-ups since new and my gas mileage ranges from a low of 21.157 MPG (13.35 L/100KM) to a high of 29.237 MPG (9.66 L/100KM), which isn't bad for an awd vehicle.

As to the performance of the car, we still love it and the AWD is simply amazing. My wife travels out of town once a week for work and she has a 60 mile drive that can be very snow and ice covered and and she just loves the way the car handles it. Just yeasterday when she got back, she was grinning from ear-to-ear and said this car is the best car out there and that there were 4 cars in the ditch on her way to work and she felt under complete control the whole trip.
As per summer driving it is great, so much fun to drive. We had a ball on our East Coast run where we travelled 5,300 KM in 12 days. Good fun playing tag with inTgr8r on the way out and meeting the other G35 peeps out there. There was one point in the mountains in Vermont where I had to swerve off the road to avoid a deer on the winding road in the dark and the rain and the car pulled us through (I was moving at a pretty good clip too)

Would I buy another X....You Bet
Wayne

Hey Wayne,

Glad to hear you're happy with the G. 30,000 km already? I have 14K on mine but got it in May last year. Like you my CD player quit on me back in October and replaced it with a new one and got my cd's back in December after hounding the dealership every week. My front brakes are virtually dust free and love it compared to my old '03. In the snow even with a RWD car like mine, it handles really well if you use the right tires...so problems there.

Woudl I buy another one? No. I'm just having too much fun with this one and I can't imagine buying another one and start modding again. I have a new summer toy coming though...real soon!!! See you at the meets bro.

Nice report Wayne...
It'll be 2 yrs in May for me, very similar situation.
Zero warrantee work.

As for the seat controls....
we can only hope the coupe concept seats are an indication of what we'll get
in the '07

Great review/report Wayne.

BTW, such low mileage on your G!!! 30k in 15 months - I wish!!!! I've had mine 6 months and I'm at 28k Oh, well - lease be damned!!!

Just one thing with the math for your mileage. I get different results when using your numbers:

21.157 MPG (13.35 L/100KM)
I calculate this in the following two possible ways (not sure if you're calculating based on imperial or US gal)

US gal (3.8L/US gal):
13.35/3.8=3.5
62.5/3.5=17.9 miles/US Gallon

Imperial (4.45L/Imp gal):
13.35/4.45=3
62.5/3=20.8 miles/Imperial Gallon

29.237 MPG (9.66 L/100KM)

US gal (3.8L/US gal):
9.66/3.8=2.54
62.5/2.54=25.8 miles/US Gallon

Imperial (4.45L/Imp):
9.66/4.45= 2.2
62.5/2.2=28.4 miles/Imperial Gallon

Minor points, but I thought I would just bring it up. My mileage on my recent trip to Orlando looks like this:

Actually I get the same as Wayne
......L/100km | IMP G/100 km | IMP G/mile | Imp MPG
low 13.35 | 2.9366 | 0.047259803 | 21.15963132
high 9.66 | 2.1249 | 0.034196981 | 29.24234763

I now see the error in my math. I've got 4.45 L/imp gallon, should be 4.54L/imp gallon. OK, that's much better. I should have looked it up earlier...

Thanks.

I dont know much about cars, and I didn't know the G35 is AWD. I though it was RWD.

Thanks guys.
Albert....WOW you certainly do put on the mileage 28K in 6 months , and I always use these calculators for my mileage figures:

Metric Fuel Consumption Calculator: http://www.csgnetwork.com/gaskpl.html

Unit Conversions: http://www.tdiclub.com/misc/conversions.html

Ian..those seats would be sweet in the sedan.

Thanks Colin,You are right, time goes so fast.
Look forward to a lunch/mini-meet, perhaps in a couple of weeks when Guelph Infiniti has my long-lost cds back.

Hey Wayne,
Nice review. That is just great to hear someone so pleased with their car. We're happy you had a fun trip to the East Coast as well. Hopefully we can all enjoy a great road trip and meet this summer.

Mine will be 2 years young in May and 14,800 kms to date. I haven't been so fortunate with mine on the warranty issues. The list is pretty long but all but one has been resolved to date.

I haven't logged all of my gas fill ups but know my worst is about 19.5 mpg and best is 31.7 In mixed driving I probably average about 22.
