Consumer Reports Magazine Top 10 Cars
Was an article in the Toronto Star Wheels section today. It had the Top 10 Picks by Consumers Reports. The M35 made it for the Luxury Sedan.
I should get my CR magazine this week, I will try to scan some of the results when I get it.
Colin..Looks like you have 2 models chosen in the top 10. Good Choices
.
Here is the Toronto Star article about it:
Top 10 Picks all Japanese brands for first time
Mar. 4, 2006. 01:00 AM
For the first time since Consumer Reports introduced its Top Picks automobile list in 1997, all 10 category winners this model year are Japanese brands, if not necessarily from Japanese factories.
Honda's Civic (small sedan under $20,000 U.S.) and Ridgeline (pickup), both products of Honda's Allison, Ont. assembly plant, won CR's respective categories, replicating exactly victories in Canadian Car and Truck of the Year voting.
Other winners are (all figures in U.S. dollars): Honda Accord (family sedan $20,000 to $30,000); Acura TL (upscale sedan, $30,000 to $40,000); Infiniti M35 (luxury sedan); Subaru Forester (small SUV, under $30,000); Toyota Highlander Hybrid (midsized SUV over $30,000); Honda Odyssey (minivan); Toyota Prius (green car); and Subaru Impreza WRX/STi (fun to drive).
To be chosen a Top Pick, a vehicle must have gone through CR's extensive test program some time within the last three years. It can involve up to six months of evaluation and anywhere from 9,500 km to 19,000 km of driving by the staff.
("We put 12,000 miles on the M35 because everyone wanted to borrow it on weekends,'' said Auto Test Centre senior director David Champion.
("We had to work to put miles on the BMW 7 Series because we all hate the iDrive controller.'')
CR tests somewhere around 70 vehicles each year, buying them anonymously from dealers along the northeastern American seaboard.
A Top Pick must outscore all other vehicles in its category in this evaluation, rank average or better in CR's subscriber reliability survey and score well in both the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash tests.
Champion cautions that the Top Pick in a category might not necessarily be the best car for every shopper.
"The Civic only outpointed last year's original small sedan pick, the Ford Focus, by a single point,'' he noted.
(Focus subsequently lost its status because it did poorly in a side crash test conducted after CR's initial announcement.)
"Any car that earns a `recommended' rating is one we think consumers could be happy with. We suggest maybe test-driving the top four or five picks in whatever category you're interested in, and using your own judgement from there.''
Details on the Top Picks will be available in the April magazine issue, on sale March 7, or http://www.ConsumerReports.org. —Jim Kenzie

Wow, that's great. It is no surprise to me at all that it was a Japanese sweep. I can't see me purchasing anything but Japanase for quite some time.
I love the guy's comments where he stated it was "work" to put miles on the 7 series!
