haha, that's the catch 22...if you're heavily drugged, you probrably can't keep your eyes opened, meaning they'd have to prop it open with a brace of some sort....and if the eye lid isn't shut, you're going to see whatever it is that's in front of you...aren't you?

I guess part of my fears of all things eye related stems from that fact that i know very little about it.

Manbir - if you MUST have 20/20 vision to join the police, isn't it pretty much a done deal that you will HAVE TO get this surgery done?

I know you're young, but if you feel that is your calling, then get it done. So what if you need it again down the road - or as you (or someone else) said, once you're on the police force for a certain time, you are allowed to get contacts or glasses (thus avoiding repeat surgery).

Good luck - I'm going to keep poking around for a place to get this done, and I'll see what my opthamologist says.

 

I had this done as well about 4 yrs ago, I was 23 at the time. Like everyone has stated it takes only a couple minutes. I was -4.5 and -5.5 in each eye and am now a little better than 20/20..i think they call it 20/15. Afterwards your eyes are slightly itchy but nothing to complain about...The cool thing i found was that i could read the clock on the wall (about 25ft away) as soon as i sat up from OR table...how cool is that!!! (Oh and I golfed and played hockey within 48 hours of procedure, so recovery is pretty easy just use eye drops to keep everything moist for a few weeks)
It cost me about 1000/eye (again 4yrs ago) in Edmonton. (VisionMed)
Best thing I have ever done!
Also I will add that a few people that i have talked to say their vision has not changed since the procedure (including mine), and the doctors say that your eyes will slowly deteriorate just as the people born with 20/20 eyes, ie. as you get older you might need reading glasses.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE LOOK INTO IT, BEST THING I EVER DID!!!

they used a metal spreader similar to that for my wife (but on a smaller scale). actually... she said afterwards that that was the most uncomfortable part of the entire procedure.

It's called a speculum...and if you really want to see the look of horror, mention that word to your wives, girlfriends, or any random female.

For police foundation this is what it has to be,
20/40 before contacts and 20/20 after contacts, but its your choice if u like to go for the LS. I think i will most likly get it done this summer soon as i save some money.
