Extended Warranty Prices

My 2003 G35C is approaching 100 000km's, so I looked into an extended warranty. An Infiniti dealership in mississauga wanted about $2550 + tax to extend the bumper to bumper (normally 4 year/100K) to 6years/160K kms.

Has anyone else priced out extended warranties? Are they the same price at all dealers? Are there other options?

thanks

From my experience, different dealerships (all Infiniti) were calling different numbers and even Woodchester Infiniti in Mississauga quoted 2550 once and then 2100 another time. Haven't purchased the warranty yet but will be doing so in next month or so. G'luck!

When I bought my '03 it had 45k on it and they offered me the extended at Agincourt for $1,800, they said as the km went up so would the price (they had a list, I don't recall it offhand), I do know that the top price was $2,050 when you hit 100,000km or 4 years.

Cool - let us know if you do get it, and if so how much it costs. Mine's almost at 100k too, so I'll be looking into it soon.

While at the Guelph dealership, I asked about extended warranty as well. Your current mileage plays a factor in the price. If you buy it early (ie. with the car, they would offer you the best price). The longer you wait, the more it'll cost. I have roughly 54k km on my 03G Coupe and I was quoted for a little under $2k+tax for an extra 2yr, 60k km. (total of 6yr or 160k km).

$2300 more for warranty... doesn't justify unless I see myself forking out at least that amount in warranty work over the next two years... hmm...

Hope this helps.

My four year period is going to be up next year. Would it be a smart move to shop now or just wait?

I am nearing 70k.

Bill

Better to get it as early as possible if you're going to have the car past 4 years or 100k; you'll get a better deal. Keep in mind there is a dealer markup on the cost, so whatever they tell you see if you can get them to come down a bit.

I tried a few dealers and got the same quote of $2550+tax. I have really close to 100k. I've decided not to buy the extended warranty. I tested the dealer 2x to see how well they stand behind their warranty and both times they failed miserably. so their warranty isn't worth much to me.

The first was the seat squeek. They said they would do it but more than 4 months later they still haven't got the parts in.

The second was the outside air temp sensor. Mine read +10deg the day I brought it in. It was one of the coldest iciest days of the winter and they said there was no problem.

Now would be better, Bill, if you're sure you're keeping the G. But as the guys have said, shop around for it. Pricing seems to change with the weather and are subject to 'offers'...

.....and I would think so at those prices.

I agree ^^;
Keep in mind, they offer the extended warrantee to make money.
They're covered by the numbers game & average # of claims.

For us, it's a bit of a crap shoot, we don't have the numbers on our side.

FWIW....
I look at the history of the car to date;
If it's been in and out with problems, chances are that could continue = get the extended.
If it's been good = take a gamble & save the money.

Either way not an easy call.

With the Infiniti extended, you can finance it interest free for like, 5, 9, or 17 months and still have full coverage. It is prorated if some jerk totals your car, so u can get money back.

I am at 26k, and will buy a 4 year extended when I hit 30k in Nov. Same time as my 4/60 ends. If I do 4/60k, I am covered til 90k or 2010, for about $1,700

I got my Lubrico extended warranty:

Superior Protection
- 60k/3yr starting at the end of factory bumper to bumper
- Everything on http://www.lubrico.com/Coverage.asp
- $0 deductible
- High tech option
- $2,000 all inclusive

Catch with Lubrico is, you have to bring your car to where they tell you to (no Infiniti) for Warranty work & 5k/3 month oil change is a must. Me and my buddy shopped around and this was the best price we got. When we asked other places to match the price, they all told us to go get it right away cuz they cannot match the price.

We got it from Wheels In Motion in Waterloo/Kitchener. Hope it helps.
