Springs/Shocks Install

Got some new Tokico D-Specs and Tein H-Techs in the other day. Two questions ...

1. What can I expect to pay for an install/alignment?

2. Does anyone have any recommended places to do this? I'm in Stoney Creek and don't want to drive out to Markham or anything. LOL I'm new to the car scene, so even if there's something to look for in general for shops.

I'm hoping a friend of mine who's works for Porsche can do it, but I haven't heard from him, so I'm just pricing since I'm getting antsy with all that sun out there.

Also, is the OEM front lip a DIY? I did my own splash guards, which I know is easy, but I've really got no experience working on cars. If not, again, recommendation and what to expect to pay? I'm sure the dealer could do it, but I'd probably get hosed.

Good choice with the suspension. I'm sure you'll like it.

Sorry.. all the shops i know are in markham so i guess that's not much help.

The oem lip can be a DIY. But it's way easier if you have the car up in the air. You have to drill the template into the bumper and unscrew the plastic thing ( I can't think of the proper name right now) underneath so that you can get behind the bumper and screw it in from behind.

I just got quoted 4 hours labour at $80/hr for the shocks/springs install, so $320 +tx. Seems a bit high no? I forgot to ask if this includes an alignment or not though.

Holy cow! Just called the Infiniti dealership just out of curiousity.

$525 in labour plus $99.95 for the alignment. Who the heck goes to the dealership? WTH?

I look outside and I just see the sun so I'm getting antsy to get the summer ride going. I didn't get it until August of last year and it was bone stock which was still a monster upgrade from the Pontiac Sunfire I was driving. Hehe

Seriously.....back to your question.

FWIW
I think 3-4 hrs is a rip off.
Should take no more than 1/2hr each corner. (2hrs total)

You have to watch some shops......
They'll stick it up on the hoist take the wheels off, remove the springs... then do something else.
Then come back & finish you car.... next thing you know they've rung up 4 hrs.

With the alignment, make sure it's up to date laser equipment.
There is still some old, strap on level alignment equipment out there.
But, equipment aside... an alignment is only as good as the tech doing the job.

I actually use Doner Infiniti in Newmarket for my alignments.
I ask for the same tech each time & go into the shop with him.
He plays with the numbers untill I'm satisfied.

BTW, I get an alignment every spring when the summers go back on.
You'd be surprized at how much it can change over the year.

I paid $305 for 4 springs and 4 shocks install at my local and only dealer. The alignment cost an addtional $75. Taxes extra.
It seemed reasonable to a bit high to me at the time. My experience is stealerships are always going to be a little on the high side.

How hard is it to DIY? I've had my Pro-Kit sitting in a garage ever since I bought them off Godsman a few months ago. I wanted to do the install in the Spring.

Do you have a Spring Compressor? Can't do the install without that right?

Wanna help me do the install? Name a price or dinner location!

It's really not that difficult if you're mechanicaly inclined.

You can do it w/o the spring compressor, but safer with it.
I made my own, but you can borrow/rent one from crappy tire.
A torque wrench is a must.

There are a couple of DIY threads around that explain the proceedure.
Here's one ->LINK<-
