Speeding ticks and when they up insurance

YaP

got my first one, 83 in a 50 (I was rushing to a burning building to save lives)

the cop dropped it to 70 in a 50 and said it's 3 points.

He says, if I go to court they may take off the points and reduce the 100 dollar fine.

I just dont want this to up my insurance which it may.

BUT, as far as I know, we can have no more than 3 tickets under 30 over, or no more than one 30 over before insurance goes up.

Can anyone verify that ?

Later fellas, oh and by the way it was on the Bloor bridge/DVP entrance.

Watch out !

Re: Speeding ticks and when they up insurance

I also got a ticket in a speed trap for going 80 in a 50 (I thought it was a 60 zone) and was dropped to 70. The funny part is that I was driving at 60-65 all along but tried to pass a yellow light and gave a little too much gas (stupid me hehehe). I was told and am pretty sure it's a 2 points and not 3 points demerit for 20 over the speed limit. Can someone verify that?

Your best bet would be to call your insurance and ask yourself. I personally called my insurance broker and he told me it would not affect my insurance rate eventhough I'm under 30 as long as I don't get any other for awhile. Also, since it was only 20 over, it was not a big deal. So I decided not to fight it at all and waste my time with this since it would not affect anything. Those points will disappear anyways in 4 or 5 years and since this was the 1st ticket in close to 6 years, I don't expect it will happen again.

Ya, know how you feel! Got my first ticket in over 7 years last week! 85 in a 50 zone. Dang G35! I was fine driving my SUV all those years and not even 3 months into the G and BAM! Gotta watch that right foot. It sure is easy to wind it out with little to no effort. I could've floored the SUV and only would have been doing 50 at the time they stopped me.

Anyways, it's $173 in BC and 3 points on the licence. The 3 points drop off after about a year (actually calculates from 5 months before your B/day plus 1 year back). So as it sits, I gotta be good until April of 04.

I see the radar on the Bloor bridge all the time!
Actually, radar is often setup on bridges because you will speed with no fear of cars or kids jumping out from the side.

DallyCurtis,

I got my ticket at the same place(Bloor Bridge/DVP exit) 2 months ago....exactly same speed 83 km in 50 zone. But the cop didn't drop anything for me.

Remember, a ticket with no points is still a ticket for the insurance companies.. ya sure they say they wouldn't increase your insurance but once you get your renewal you see that it has jump..

5 over is the same as a 20 over for them.. best bet is to go to court and hope the cop doesn't show up..
