Used G35, things to watch for?

Hey going the cheapie route and thinking of getting a used g35 coupe 6 spd, anything to specifically look for? what is considered a lot of milleage on a g35? was thinking of getting one with about 30-35k on it.

I also read somewhere that there was class action lawsuit on the brakes cause they wear quickly? thanks

I don't think the lawsuit is for the brakes but more for the tire wear. Things to look for on a use g35, tire weare especially the front. Look for the uneven tire wear. I guess look for condition of paint, you not going to get a flawless paint but get one that is close to perfection.

hmm whatelse, test drive it, listen for any noises inside the cabin and outside I guess. Pop the hood and look at the engine bay, check for the hoses and anything that might be loose.

Above all else, when you find a car get an independent inspection done by someone that knows Infiniti / Nissan products.

What year are you looking at? That makes a difference.

+1. You should also buy the car from an INFINITI or NISSAN dealer. I don't trust any of those curb side dealers. Those guys usually buy "write-offs" fix them and put them out in the market again. You should also get the service history on the car.

There was talk about a class action lawsuit concerning the excessive wear of the brakes and rotors warping. Nissan/Infiniti countered this by extending the brake warranty on the 2003 sedans and non-Brembo coupes to 60,000km or 3 years.

There has been also some transmission issues with the 2003/4 models... have not heard about alot of cases with G35's but many 350Z owners have experienced issues... some of them on their 3rd transmission.

Tire feathering problems in my research has ony really occured in 2003 and early production 2004 350Z's --- have not heard of coupe problems.

There is also a TSB out there for axle clunking on some early model coupes.

Other than this most other issues are relatively minor: window pops, body creaks, sunroof clicking, A/C controller, grease on inside of door window, etc.

Check out the thread re: TSB's to get a better idea.

thanks for all the help guys, g35 looks like a great overall car, i guess it would be biased to ask here, but how do you all feel about yours? do you use it as a daily driver even in winter?

It's my daily driver, can be really hard on gaz....depend if you can control yourself with the right foot....

Not allways fun to drive in big town/trafic, car can scrape on speed bumbs/entrance....poor rear view, kinda big. Living with the stress to have that nice butt/door panel hit by another car is hard too...

Last winter I was on factory 18 wheels with LM-22 blizzak (I live in canada)
The stability system do have saved my *** from some "rear kick" when driving on snow.

It's not pleasant but it can be done. I am DEFINATLY trying to find 17 inches wheels that fit over the brembo for next winter to see if there is a improvement.

Yep, exactly......alot of the curb side dealers that you speak of get alot of their vehicles from auctions. At least they do here in the maritimes. I have heard a lot of cases where mileage has been rolled back. Definitely get try and purchase from an Infiniti or Nissan dealership like Chico suggested. At the very least, have the G inspected by an Infiniti dealership.

Good luck with your purchase.

If you want to know the mileage has been roll back or not, just unplug the battery and you will know...if it's rolled (that only cost $200 to do it) the number will jump back to the REAL numbers...
Be sure to slam the gas at sec gear when ur trying the car (6000rpm)...do it twice and you know know if there's any problem in the clutch...coz 02-05 G35 clutch do have some problem..."sticky clutch"...which it doesn't pop back out after you change gears...ya, when the engine is hot....

Hey thanks for your input, sounds like a realistic perspective of daily driving, do you think you're going to be fed up soon and get something more economical or smaller? cause i don't want to get it if i'll give up on it in a year.. I live in the burbs/markham, so theres tons of open space hence why i was thinking it would be fun to drive the G, during the weekday i fight minimal traffic cause I only go to the GO station.....

in terms of the stability, how is it? i didn't even kno g35 had it, thats a plus but i've noticed every g35 i've seen during winter had steelies and winter tires, i'm guessing it's a must?

Also I've noticed the G35 seems to retain it's value even with a good amount of milleage on it, any reason for it? Is there limited amounts in Ontario? I'm comparing it to the s2k and the 350z.

Got about the same advice on another forum, just wanted to post it here in case there were other newbie g35'ers

Some things to look out for?
- Possible window streaking
- Possible rocking driver seat
- Possible noise coming from rear axle

Some other items were issued recalls by Nissan/Infiniti Canada and owners were sent notification letters to bring in their vehicles for warranted repairs.

Average mileage is about 20,000km/yr.

How do you roll back the mileage on a digital odo?
