Ontario, Canada is one of the worst places to own a detector- the OPP purchase the latest and greatest to detect detectors. It seems that they are more willing to buy new gear, or upgrade existing gear, than any other state/province force. Valentine, for one, will not guarantee against counterdetection, for On.

IMHO, at link is the foremost authority on detectors. Most comprehensive and technical tests I've come across.

LOL...Derek;
The ExRatee was mine... but Deane wins the kewpie doll for knowing what it was.

Hehe,

Ian is right. Never owned one but worked for a Merc dealer years ago a bit before they came out.

Thanks for the link.

If I win the lottery I'm involved in right now I might take the plunge and get one.

Just read part of the Highway Traffic Act, and looks like the penalty is confiscation plus a fine. When you guys say that that law changed, what was the penalty before? Anyone know if there are any demerit points for using a RD?

From info I've seen on other sites....

IIRC it's always been just confiscation plus a fine.

Apparently the fine is not fixed, the more cooperative you are the less the fine.

I know others that carry an old cobra or something ($20 on ebay)
they give that up & fine is $250 - $350.

Also they carry a quick seal envelop (like puroletter)
apparently if you seal the RD in the envelop, they can't open it w/o a court order.

I like the old detector idea- much better than getting your val1, BelSti or X50 yanked.

I had mine repo'd by the PQ cops years ago, when they were still legal in NB and NS (2 kms from the NB border). They were required to send it back to me-all I did was send them my NS license, and they mailed it to me. I chose to pay because I knew I'd be back through PQ at some point in the future. I think the damage was 500 bucks then!
I do not believe there are any points associated with the fine.

Cheers,
D

Ah OK. That's a hefty fine though and you lose the unit.....

I better think twice about it. Plus the BelSTi doesn't look like it has stealth install.

Anyone have one or planning to get one? I'd like to see it installed.
