Motorcycle or car - everyone needs to do their part when travelling on the road.

On my commute to work this morning I was making one of my many lane changes - the good ole shoulder check came through for me big time on one occasion because it turned out there was a motorbike in my blindspot. Had I just moved right over without checking, I would have wiped him out pretty badly...

Most drivers that haven't owned a bike don't realize how fast a supersport can stop.

My supersport days ended with a moron in an rx7 right up my *** as I came to a traffic light. I (stupidly) always sped upto lights and maxed out my brakes to feel the g-force. The tailgater thought I was going to run the light. When I stopped last second for it, he hit me so hard that I was on the other side the intersection when I stopped bouncing, my bike(what was left of it) slid about another 40ft past that.

Not even brembos will help you if you tailgate a bike, you will hit them if they brake hard.

i remember few years ago there was a stupidest biker i've ever seem, just because i was driving 60km on kennedy rd. he got pissed and cut in front of me and then hit his brake hard, all i could say, you are so dump, if i cant brake in time i guess would only have a dent on my bumper but you would be like a flying bird.

i must say i really hate bikers, because everytime i see them on the street i need to stay really far, it's a PIA to follow behind them, bike's brake are 100x better compare to our heavy cars. and just a little bumper touch they would fly like an eagle. must the time i would keep far or different lance to avoid the bikers

Glad to hear that there was no incident. I ride a sport bike myself.

Most drivers are respective of motorcyclist and not all motorcyclists ride like idiots. In both cases, safe drivers and riders shouldn't be broadstroked by a few boneheads.

But the road behavior by this G35 driver is unacceptable, is a hazard on the road and an accident waiting to happen. Please take note and the people around you on the road.

For me I take it upon myself to know who I am riding with. I don't ride with newbies that just got their license or aren't at a mature age to understand whats around them. I don't ride with idiots that think they are invincible, because you need a sense of fear to keep you in check with the bike. I do like to go fast, but I do that in a time where there is very minimal traffic and definately not on busy roads or busy times. I only pose a threat to myself and not others on the road. So safety is paramount when it comes to riding. My riding is for pleasure and if I want to go way beyond the speed limit then I go to the track and thats the best place for that.

Sorry, you are absolutely wrong if you think a sportbike can stop in a significantly shorter distance than a car. I agree that drivers should respect a bike's space, but this is incorrect.

LOL... the avg sportbike has a 60-0 stopping distance of what? 110ft

My car stock can do that in 113ft

EDIT: looks like an R6 does it in 108ft

Stock G35 does it in 115 feet. Of course, that 7 feet is enough to hurt someone on a bike and noone should be tailgating but the claim that bikes can stop significantly faster than a car is a much of a myth as claiming a bike has faster cornering speed.

Holy flamefest!!!!! Did you guys even read the full post before jumping in to attack me? Of all the posts to attack someone for, why that? all I was trying to say was don't tailgate bikes because from my own personal experience that can end very badly.

I would like to clarify the 2 points that were flamed:

Point #1:

It was a general statement. Did I say "bikes stop faster than F1 race cars"? NO. Did I say "G35 drivers don't realize..." NO. I said !!!!!MOST DRIVERS....!!!!!!! Do most drivers drive G35's? Is there such a thing as someone driving an older car with worn brakes? Yes. The average car cannot brake like a G35, it could be anywhere from 110ft to well over 150ft.

This is quite a significant difference when considering how kinetic energy works, Ek=0.5mv^2 (velocity change is squared not linear). Even if the difference was only 7 feet which is less than 7%, the car will have a lot more than 7% of its initial speed in the last 7% of its braking distance. Now if there is more than a 7 ft difference say 30+ as there could easily be, there will be a lot of speed left. The old rx7 that hit me probably had a 30+ difference, I don't have a digital photo of my bikes remains, but trust me there was plenty of speed difference when he hit me.

I could go on about how and why the differance between bikes and !!!!!MOST CARS!!!!! is even greater at higher speeds but I think my point#1 is already proven sufficiently.

POINT #2:

See JASONOFF's post, a supersport can stop in a little less distance BUT....... Reaction time has not yet been considered. by the time a tailgaters brakes engage, a bike will have slowed down to say 60mph while the tailgater is still at 70. Remember that a 10mph difference does not equate to a 70/60 times greater braking difference. Look at 60-0 vs. 70-0 braking distance stats. The tailgater in the G35 with brembos will have a much longer stopping distance starting from the point its brakes engage.
