I'd take the $200 if part of the deal is I get to stab him in the face.

OUCH...no one better bump into you Shane .

Reminds me of years ago (many years) when a fellow hit me in the back of my 70 Cuda at a stop light. I freaked and looked and it was a small mark on the bumper. I was going to call the cops and the guy who hit me couldn't speak English, but he did not want the Police. I asked him how much money he had and he pulled out his wallet. I grabbed it and there was only $30 in it. I took it out of his wallet and threw the wallet back at him. My wife freaked when I got back in the car, she said you just robbed that guy as I was driving away.
Later I realized how stupid that was , and from then on I always try very hard to control my temper.

Depending on how hard he hit you I would definitely take it in and have the actual bumper looked at. I've seen way too many posts with guys getting bumped at 20km/h and only minor damage to the cover, but all the crumple zones inside being totally mashed. Just a word of caution. Good luck man, I'm sure it's not the way you wanted to start your weekend.

giddyup69 - Ontario was to go with a "no fault" insurance policy. I don't know if this occured yet. If it did, then each individual involved in a colision are responsible for their own damage and insurance claim. In Quebec that's how it work and it really $uck, because your insurance premium increases every time you have a claim, whether it is your fault or not...

FYI, I had very similar damage on my G35 last year. My rear bumper was replaced with a new one at a cost of $1,000 CDN.

I really don't know how you guys can hold it together if the guy who hit you is a dick. If he was nice about it and apologized, I'd be ok...everyone makes mistakes.

holy crap... that's exactly what i DIDN'T want to hear. this is what i was hesitating about the entire time in reporting it. i don't have a problem fixing it myself to save my record... but... BUT... this guy cannot get away with this ****. worst comes to worst i'll sue his a$$... but hopefully it won't come to that.

Giddyup, I'm really sorry to hear about the damage to your baby.

I hate those situations where the traffic slows suddenly &
you watch your rear view praying that the guy behind isn't yakking on the cell phone or something.

"No Fault" has been in force since spring of 1991. It is simply a better way to process claims to the policy holders and then the two insurance companies involved settle the damages between them. It also limits the liability to the policy holder which means you cannot sue the party AT FAULT.

It doesn't mean that your premium increases in every claim you report to them. "NOT AT FAULT" accidents DO NOT have an impact on your record and your premium remains the same.

giddyup, FYI I was rear ended a year ago and my car was a total loss, got my cheque a week after the accident and my premium was in fact lower at renewal due to my clean driving record.

Don't worry about anything. You're not at fault and your premium will not go up at all. Just make sure your adjuster appraises the damages accordingly and take the car to an Infiniti dealer.

oh BTW, you will not have to pay for your collision deductible 'cause YOU"RE NOT AT FAULT.

Sorry for the confusion. You are correct and I'm wrong. For anyone interested in more info on this subject, read this link:

http://www.kanetix.ca/what-is-no-fault-auto-insurance

The article gives, as an example, the situation that occured above:

<<Say you are an Ontario resident and were unable to stop your car on an icy road near your home. You rear-ended another car and the police officer told you that "no one was at-fault".

This usually means that no police charges will be laid. It does not mean that the insurance companies involved will not consider who was at-fault. In this case, the insurance company would apply Ontario’s Fault Determination Rules which states that a car that rear-ends another car is at-fault (since drivers are required to take road conditions into consideration).

Your percentage of fault will not only determine the amount of deductible you have to pay but if you're fully or partially at fault in an accident, your insurance company will likely increase your premiums at your next renewal date as well.>>

It also states that in Ontario – You can sue for pain and suffering and for economic loss but there are conditions.

Sorry again and good luck with the repairs....

+1 Chico. That's how I understood it. No worries Giddyup...you're in the clear, just make sure the whole rear end is checked out like Picus said. There could easily be damage that's not easily spotted.

Yeah.

Thrice in three years. A month ago, I got rear-ended the day before I was supposed to sell the car (wasn't the G). I was completely FLIPPING OUT inside. You just can't 'declare jihads' on a nice lady senior citizen, though.

Oh, and just today I found a nice 3 foot scrape on my front lip from banging the pavement of a pothole riddled crap plaza entrance.

Yeah.

Bad luck. It exists. It sucks.

Giddyup, best of luck. "Watch out for the ******!", I like that.
