Removing scratches?

Somebody scratch the heck out of my G35 last week, and oh man, that was depressing. It looks that no matter how hard you try not to park in the places that most likely will get you car dented or scratch, still happens. But, anyway, I am trying to find out what is the best way to remove fine scratches from the paint. I want to do it myself, but, I am afraid of using the wrong thing and damage the paint. Can anybody please let me know what is the best thing to do and to use to remove scratches? I already tried some type of scratch remover from Auto Zone, but, I think these scratches are a little deeper than I thought because it did not work. I will really appreciated if I could get a reply. Also, does anybody know if the black sections on the doors are actually painted or are they like some type of tape? Thanks.

You should try posting this is the "Care & Detailing" forum, but you can use 3M compound for light finishes, and a 3M glaze (fine scratch remover) to finish it up. Honestly, it depends on how deep the sratches are. You may be looking more at a wet sand to get them out if they are deeper. I have gotten several scratches out of my car with the aboe mentioned products.

I have found this works very well with fine scratches, not cheap, but it's good IMO, you can find it at NAPA if they have those in your area, Auto Zone, Checker, etc don't carry this in my area anyway.

3M Medium

Feel your pain. I just found my first door ding last week. Dent Wizard was able to pop it out. Scratch X is worth a shot also, though it sounds like you may need something more aggressive.

Dent Wizard has locations all over the state except in nyc. how ****ing stupid is that?

I have dings and scratches all over my car. front cover is rock chipped to death.
I have one ding on my pasenger door, one on my passenger side fwd fender, one on the drivers side skirt, one on the drivers side rear door. I have chipped paint where the G35 symbol was, and chipped on my drivers quater.

so thats PDR for 4 spots and paint blend for two. than I have to spend 8 or..hehe 20 hours with zaino this weekend (I am using a deeper cut now). than the paint will be good as new.

I figured it would be best to pile up the dings here in nyc before leaving the state this august. Theres just no avoiding them here. For work I have to street park in brooklyn...forget it.

well anyways, removing scratches...the wetsand method is very effective but cumbersome (for chips). from my experiance, it can be too cumbersome to deal with. I found it best worth my time to send it to the shop to get it repaired. you can probably do it yourself...but some might need the time to do more important things...like a good polish and wax!

There is a dent remover person in the Whitestone area off of the cross island pkwy I think aroung 150 154 street. There are some ppl here who have used him and were very happy with the results.

Also you might want to come out to Glex's place this sunday if you are going to work on your car. There will be peeps there that can give you some good advice on what to do and show you. The thread is in the Northeast forum.

Sorry for goin ot .... oh yeah, as you may of notice I moved it out of the G forum.....lol

Has anyone tried Mothers Scratch Remover or Meguiar's Scratch X or Nu Finish Scratch Doctor? I don't want to use anything abrasive if I have to. After you use the scratch remover should you apply some carnauba wax or Zaino? Sorry for all the questions but I have a black 2006 G35 coupe and you can see everything after the car wash.

Thanks!
