porter cable help

My pc vibrates like a ****. I can't even hold it for more than 30 seconds on 3.5+ speed. It only does this when I try to use my 6" velcro backing plate with 6.5" pads. It's okay with the 6" white polishing pad that came with the pc.

What can I do to fix this? I have the counter weight that's meant for 6" pads.

hit the gym more often? J/K. Just try holding it as steady as you can. I use mine on 6 speed all the time and have no problems holding it steady for hours.

I'm not using the pad that came with it. I just put it on to make sure that there was nothing wrong with the pc itself. I can actually go to 6 without any vibrations.

As for the 6.5" back plate, where can I find one? The biggest I've seen was 6". Also, I thought that it might be safer to have a pad that is bigger than the back plate to prevent any potential contact of back plate to paint surface.

Actually, I gave you the wrong info. I use a 5" backing plate with all of my 6.5" pads.

Hit the Meguiars Forums Site for any 411 you want on the PC. They have the G 100 Dual Action Polisher which is the same machine as the PC except the the Dual Action Polisher from Meguiars comes with a lifetime warranttee no questions asked.

Look at the weight on the bottom of the PC. It's right where you screw on the backing plate.

One is for the 5" and the other is for the 6". Make sure you have the proper weight installed.

Also as silly as this sounds, make sure your pad is centered well on the backing plate.

The topic is a month old but I had the same problem until I removed the handle.

You should see if that fixes your problem.

Are there certain situations where you should use a certain size backing plate? If you use a 6" backing plate, should you use a 6" pad or a 6.5" pad?
