How to remove CG Layer
How to remove CG Layer
Just had a minor sized dent/scuff mark that wouldnt come off, tried everything from carwash soap all the way to paint thinner.
To remove crystal gaurd off of your car, simply wash the car or area with Dawn a few times (the blue stuff)
Worked for me, got behind the CG and then used a small amount of 3M finishing compound, rubbed it gently and the scuff came out.
Now, on with my DentKing appointment.

Re: How to remove CG Layer
Thanks for the info! I accidentally CG'ed over a spot, so I've been contemplating what to do. Unfortunately, it's on the newly-painted (almost two months since it was, actually) hood, so I don't want to use anything too harsh.
Ooooh I love that shine I'm a big fan of this pic-- taken off the G's hood--

nice shine as well w/ your pic I see that you flipped the pic over so that the trees are upright, haha
Yeah i wouldnt use compound on non-fully cured paint, i think you should wait another month just to be 100% safe
By the way, incase anyone was wondering, the peeps over at Custom Exotica recommended Dawn to remove CG (blue kind).

Yep-- just looks better when it's right-side-up
It's killing me that I can't detail my G. It's in the shop right now, and I had to tell them a hundred times "NO WASH" just to make sure. If they do... oh man... fumes out the ears, buddy... fumes out the ears.

Re: How to remove CG Layer
thanks guys!
Well, the guy just finished repairing the dent, MAN it looked so easy to do! took him 5 minutes and he charged $55, that means he makes $660/hour..... hmmm, time to change professions???
It looks as good as new, all he did was use one of those syphon things, long rod of metal to POKE at the dent from the inside of the door, he used a door stopper to make room between the rubber strippings of the window sill, so that the rod can fit into there. Then he just scratched and poked at it and the dent came out!
i will take pics later tonight.
Now, does anybody know where i can get me some of those syphon rods, i bet i can make my own, haha

Re: How to remove CG Layer
Nice, man. Good to hear it came out. I love those "Pops-a-Dent" commercials where this soccer mom says *thick country drawl* "I backed my car into one of them big see-ment poles, and it dented my door! Then I used pops-a-dent... NOW who's the smart one?" I'm sorry, but when she says that last line, I lose it. I don't know what it is...
Anyway, just got my car back from the dealer for some tranny work. I told them "NO WASH", and they didn't So, I took it home, all spotted and nasty from sitting outside... and sprayed a little water on it and wiped off all the crap with a microfiber towel. GOT TO LOVE Crystal Guard. Wow. Shines like new with just some water...

Re: How to remove CG Layer
Hey Rambo,
What kind of compound did you use to get the scuff/scratch out of the dent. I have a few fine scratches on the back bumper of my car and they don't seem to come out with the Zaino swirl/scratch remover. I havent really tried anything else.
I have this compound at home that works really well for my beater car, but I dont trust it with my G. This is because the compound has abrasives in it. If you feel the compund between your fingers it feels like it has tiny sand particles in it. Does your compound have abrasives? I am afraid of swirling up my G even more if I use the abrasive compound.
Thanks

Re: How to remove CG Layer
Hey Dan,
I used 3M compound, it came in a little pouch package, 1 time use i guess. The key is not to go in circular motion, just go up and down and dont use too much pressure. I didnt feel the compound, haha i was too scared to touch the stuff because the package said that its carcinigenic (causes cancer)
Since you have a dark G, then the scratches will be more visible. With d.graphite, scratches dont really show much, especially with a nice coat of Zaino or CG
