Adhesive Remover

I work in DC and some of the neighborhood kids decided to pry off my trunk "infiniti" emblem with a screw driver. Does anyone know what I can remove the leftover adhesive with that will not harm the paint? I haven't yet decided if I will replace the emblem for fear that they will just pry it off again. It seems to be a status thing in the inner city.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Re: Adhesive Remover

Go to a pep boys or any large auto parts store and buy the 3M product.

Re: Adhesive Remover

rubbing alcohol and light rubbing works well also, i hope the area isnt scratched up too bad, be sure to wax over that area afterwards

Re: Adhesive Remover

Did they chip your paint? I had someone steal the Honda logo off the trunk of my last car, and they chipped the paint where they used the screwdriver. (Of course, the Honda trunk logo was secured with sticky tape and two posts with clips on the inside of the trunk.. so it took some prying.)

Aw man, that's horrible. Sorry about that-- hope they didn't scratch it up. If I were a thug, I'd carry around some goo-gone so I didn't scratch up the cars when I was acting like a reprobate.

Try rubbing alcohol with light pressue, and if you've got Goo Gone around try it as well-- BUT wash the area immediately afterwards.

Re: Adhesive Remover

I would try paint thinner or BBQ charcol lighter fluid. It's the same stuff. The adhesive would laugh at alcohol. I don't know about goo-gone. It might be too much and end up being paint-gone.

Re: Adhesive Remover

I second wjfm1's suggestion, use 3M Adhesive Remover. We just used it to swap badges on our s2k last week and it worked great w/o harming the paint. It also dissolves wax, which is great if you have any excess wax residue, but remember to rewax the area when you're done!

Re: Adhesive Remover

Thanks guys! I'll try your suggestions. Sorry to say that "YES" they did scratch up the paint, but were pretty careful to do it only inside the emblelm. I guess they were nice theives. I have a body shop that is going to repair the scratches, but can't stand to see the obvious boo boo until the shop can get me in.

Thanks again.....you all are great

Re: Adhesive Remover

3M makes an adhesive remover. They sell it at Pep Boys, and NAPA. I forget the name though.
