Cleaning Chrome Lip - Please HELP!!!

I have a deep chrome lip on my 20" wheels and went out and bought microfiber towels as I hear they will not scratch the chrome lip. Anyhow, I just went out and cleaned it with some all purpose cleaner and as I was drying it up with the microfiber towels, it seems as if it made some very light scratches. What can I do to remove these light scratches and why is this happening in the first place? I thought everyone recommended microfiber towels as they do not cause any light scratches at all. Any knowledge on this subject would be quite helpful as I am new to this. Thanks.

did you wash your rims before you used the cleaner.. there might be some sand or dust sediments on your rims, and you were grinding them in while you were using the towel.

That could have been the problem. The chrome lip was filthy, so I took some all purpose clearner and just sprayed it on the lip. I then took the microfiber towel and begain to wipe it down. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

EDIT: If there was sand or dust sediments on the chrome lip, how do I clean them off? Water? Thanks.

Yes, you have to wash it off first to get all of the grains of sand off. I use microfiber towels on mine with a detailer but only after they have been washed.

Do you just simply throw some soap and water on there and spray it with a hose or do you use a sponge? Sorry, I am new to this. Thanks.

EDIT: Is there any product out there that I can purchase to remove the light scratches on my chrome lip? Thanks.

well spray it first to get most of the junk off then work with soapy sponge into the rims. i believe the more soap it lubricates the surface form scratches. but i havent confirmed that yet. still just be gentle.

So, first take a hose and spray off any sand or dust sediments. Then take a soapy sponge and clean the chrome lip, however, do it gentle? It's all right to use a sponge? It will not create any scratches on the chrome lip? Then after all is done, use the microfiber towel to clean everything up? Thanks.

EDIT: Is it OKAY to use a scratch remover on the chrome lip to see if the light scratches can be removed if it states it can be used on "chrome"? Thanks.

Someone chime in if I'm wrong...

I hose down, wash and rinse first (along with G), then I use Mothers and a lot of elbow grease.
Finish w/a light coat of wax. Haven't had any uglies since I started doing this.

if its a chrome lip, i clean it with soap and water...then use a semi-wet tissue to clean it again, and to dry it well, use dry tissue...
