Mothers Clay Bar Kit

picked it up at Canadian Tire for $24.99 yesturday.
came with a 3oz clay bar, 16oz "Quick Detailer" (which is suppose to be the lube) and a small bottle of liquid wax as a bonus.

has anyone tried Mother's Clay Bar?
I assume that it should be alright, but I wasn't so sure about the quick detailer being used for lube. is that normal?

some input would be appreciated, since I am planning to do a dawn/ claybar/ CG thing on my new car on wednesday.

Mothers is good! The detailer is the lube. Do not be afraid, use the lube generously.

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

you will be amazed at the results. even on a new car there will be minor imperfections. Like wjfm1 said use the lube generously. when you run out you can substitute with simple green or some really slipery soapy water. the key is that you don't want to drag the clay across the paint. when you get done you will have abuttery smooth surface to work with

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

i have the mother's clay bar kit. $14.99 here though, but it's the same one. i find it works well and you can tell the before/after difference when you run your hand over it. the interesting cinnamon smell of the detailer/lube seemed to attract a lot of bugs though. i also split my claybar in half -- used half and kept the other in a ziplock for later use.

I have found that the Mothers Clay Bar is pretty good. Easy to use and great results. Good luck

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

I have used Mother's, Mcquiars, etc... but the best clay bar to use is called Clay Magic. It has been in the painting industry for years...It was used to remove overspray (when paint from one job gets on the wrong car) but now, finally, it is being sold just like the other brands. Same idea, a clay bar and a lube bottle. I think they only sell it at Pep Boys, at least in Florida.

Use it to remove bugs, adhesive (like from debadging), etc.

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

haha galle... i noticed a lot more bug landings on mine too. i'd work on the car, then step away for a little break, and then notice these "marks" on my car. i thought it was dirt, but whew! it was just bugs chilling out on the finished parts.

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

thanks for the input ladies, I guess I will clay bar my car when I pick it up on wednesday. might as well do everything at once, since I need to rebadge and CG too. I've been racking my brain out, trying to figure out everything I need to:
de-badge, claybar, dawn wash, re-badge, CG. it's gonna be a long day.

anyone want the tiny bottle of carnubey wax that came with the kit?

Fluffy, I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to dawn wash before you clay bar... anyone know for sure?

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

yeah, i'd dawn before you claybar. and i've never used the little bottle of wax (and i don't plan on using it). hey, maybe we can pool all of our little bottles together and sell them on ebay.

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

Woah, that Speed Clay looks pretty cool; I'll check it out.

I've got some overspray on my trunk and on the general back end of my car. g35girl felt it-- it's somewhat obvious. I want to get rid of it, but it means essentially "claybar"ing the entire car, and that's something I don't think my right arm can do right now

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

since it's just that area on your trunk, do you have to do the whole car? or can you just do that part where i felt that not-so-smooth area?

"that's something I don't think my right arm can do right now"

your arm is probably still tired from that monstrosity of a beer that you had at champp's. again, another jawdropping moment for the indy Gs.

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

Ahh yes, the "swimming pool" of Blue Moon. That was a good beer. A LOT of a good beer.

I've got the rough feeling pretty much on the entire roof, all the rear doors, and the entire back end Basically the hood and two front panels and doors were spared. I don't get it, but it's something that must be done!

Re: Mothers Clay Bar Kit

oh that stinks. is it overspray from when they did work on your car for that boulder/tree incident? it doesn't take me too long to claybar crap off the front bumper and hood, but how long does it take to do overspray? and do you have to press harder to get rid of it?

you make me want to go out and check my car now.
