Is my front bumper paint ruined?

As I was driving today, the front half of my '03 Ivory Pearl Coupe got covered in a fine liquid mist of reddish spots. It looked like a mixture of red clay (I live in NC) and blood! I noticed a waste truck way up ahead, but I'm not sure if that was the cause. It started gradually, but over a 5 minute period it built up so slowly that you couldn't notice it accumulating.

Anyways, I washed my car tonight and it came off from everywhere (easily with no elbow grease) except the front bumper. The "top layers" of the spots on the bumper came off, but the bumper is still covered in what are now orangish spots and they won't come off. Is it because the bumper is made of a different material than the hood and doors? Is there anything I can use to remove the spots? You can't feel them; it's like the paint absorbed them. Does anyone know what causes this? Thanks.

Re: Is my front bumper paint ruined?

try dawn .... then some 3m rubbing compound (pepboys)

the 3m compound will polish out the stain hopefully!

Have you tried rubbing alcohol? I don't get why it came off the other places and not the bumper, sounds strange!

Re: Is my front bumper paint ruined?

Thanks--I'll try the alcohol before I get more aggressive and try the compound. I actually called the dealer today and explained it; although the bumper is made of a different material, he said that shouldn't matter as it's a paint issue. He suggested rubbing lightly with paint thinner or acetone (nail polish remover), but had no explanation for why this happened. There's definitely a clear delineation between the bumper and the rest of the car though--weird. Thanks for the replies.

before you try any of the above mentioned suggestions, try a claybar and a spray bottle of water mixed w/ some car wash detergent. give it some good shots w/ the spray bottle, and spritz the clay while your at it. then go at it w/ some mild pressure.

Okay--at least now I have a few options to try to clear this up! I was almost sick last night thinking about having permanent orange dirt-spray on my car. Thanks.
