EXCESSIVE swirlmarks - HELP
Hey all! I have a 2003.5 Black sedan and take really good care of it. I wash it almost always once a week, yet most of the time my car is in the garage because I have to drive an Impala for work (haha the Impala doubles as my SUV). I take my car to a good car wash / detailer (or so ive heard.. Johnny's Car Wash and Detail in Sarasota, FL, anyone heard?) But, I have A TON of swirl marks and don't know what to do about them. I took it to the dealer and he said he was afraid to touch it!! He thought he would make it WORSE?!?! I am pissed off out of my mind and really want my G to be compleatly glossy! Can anyone help me out with this, or recommend an excellent detailer in the Sarasota, FL area (thats not amazingly expensive)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: EXCESSIVE swirlmarks - HELP
The reason you have tons of swirl marks is that the people at the detail shop or your self maybe is using towels that are hard and stiff....those kind of drying material you really want to avoid...try using chamois they are a lot better and the should not leave swirl marks on your car. Try using 3ms finish restorer....that stuff works wonders especially on swirl marks. Be aware that this stuff is about 6 bucks a pop, if that is to much on your wallet try using Mothers Finish Restorer/Paint cleaner...similar to 3ms but cheaper but also you have to work a little harder to make it work just as good as 3ms. Good luck.

rsc6789,
if the swirls really are as bad as you say they are, then none of the above remedies will work. you'll need to bring it to a professional detailer to have them buff/polish them out. you can check autopia and ask if there's someone regional to you that can help. i'd imagine that it should cost no more than $200 to take care of it.
going forward, be aware of how you wash/dry your car. more than likely, both you and johnny's car wash installed those aftermarket swirls. take a look in the faq/diy section, there's a good read on how to wash/dry the car.

Re: EXCESSIVE swirlmarks - HELP
gtr35,
glazes are fine. this g will be my 4th black car. and while i understand that filling swirls w/ glazes is works, i'd prefer to remove them since glazes will eventually break down causing the swirls to reappear.
if one doesn't mind just hiding swirls, and doing this a few times a year, then any glaze will take care of this. 3M imperial hand glaze is readily available at pep boys/autozone/etc, and should do the job nicely. personally i would opt for having the swirls removed by polishing w/ a machine, but then again, that's just me.

Re: EXCESSIVE swirlmarks - HELP
tkman00 is right. If you want the swirl marks to be permanently removed, you'd need to get the exterior professionally detailed. That would be a quick fix......you wouldn't have to slave over dozens of chemicals and many hrs of labor to remove them and find out later that you were only temporarily hiding the swirls. Pay to get it done and then invest in some microfiber towels........and beware of using any dirty cloth to wash the car. Something as simple as a dirty bucket can cause much damage.
