exterior detailing

i had a dent near my passenager door.. and i took it to a shop for estimate.. they told me 450 to pop out a dent the size of a fist.. going in maybe 2/3 of an inch.. so wasnt THAT noticable but definately there.. anyways i went to Schucks and bought a suction cup.. they told me it would work to take out the dent.. anyways.. i used it.. and it pulled out most of the dent.. but it is still visible.. but not HALF as bad.. thenn i was wwashing my car yesterday.. and realized the suction cup messed up my paint... i dont think its permanent.. you guys think wax will get rid of this?? the color looks blurred and it wont come off.. i was going to detail my car this summer and hopefully they can buff it out.. but what should i do before then? thankss

I can't visualize how your paint got messed up by doing that suction thingy......

I think I know what it is.... You probably had dirt on your car when you used the suction cup, and then you marred the finish when you pulled the dent out... (The suction cup slides on the surface of your paint, when you pull it out and push it in).

You should be able to just use a paint cleaner or paint polish to rub out the blemmish. If that doesn't work, try a very light rubbing compound that's clear-coat safe.

Don't know why you were quoted $450 to pop out a dent the size of a fist... A few years ago, one of my old GFs backed into my car, and put a nice dent the size of two-fists on my front fender... I went to a paintless dent-repair place that was recommended by the dealer... They popped it out for $75, and I couldn't tell I was whacked on the fender when it was done.

However, the dealer quote me $500 to pull it out the old-fashioned way with a screw-type dent-puller, and a repaint job... Maybe that's why they quoted you $450...
