Plastic Bag melted on exhaust pipes
So I'm crusing and one of those plastic sheets that is used for dry cleaning goes underneath my car--look in the rearview and doesn't come out. Get home and the plastic is melted to the pipes w/ the logo from the cleaners and all--It reaks wicked bad of burn plastic--I got some of the plastic that wasn't melted--but the rest is now melted on the pipes.
Does anyone know the best and safest way to clean/get the melted plastic off the pipes? Anyone know if this condition will cause any other harm besides bad smell? Anyone have a similar incident? Thx for the input!

i hate it when that happens. lol...
i used a window scraper (razor blade with handle) and a chizzle and
gently scraped most of it off, finished off with a sanding block (400grit)
and polished at the end. i can't stand that melted plastic smell.

LOL . . . That happened to me soon after I had installed my HKS. I used denatured alcohol and stainless steel cleaner to remove the mess. Fortunatley for me, the mess wasn't on for long prior to the removal.

Thx for the input all. I'm glad to know I haven't been the only one to ride around w/ burnt plastic smell. So it seems, scraping off the plastic once cooled, then using a wirewheel or polisher to get off the rest is the way to go as opposed to power washing or the like? I assume there are some sensors down under there as well that would need care to not be damaged?
And I bit the bullet and ordered the jdm weldina exhaust, which I should get in 14-21 days via japanparts.com. Can't wait--I'll post flicks, sound clips, impressions when I get it and put it on--I just got to be sure to avoid these pesty plastic pieces of **** flying around on roads.

So I took it to a friend of mine who is a service advisor at my dealership. We took a look under the car. Luckily no plastic was melted on any of the 02 sensors or cats. The melted plastic was on both sides of the stock cover over the y pipe. A tech takes a smell, goes and gets these huge canisters w/ a torch on the end and torches the plastic right off!! The plastic is almost all off, w/ a little residue of smell--but I guess flamethrowing the plastic is another option!
you can pretty much scrape it any time...but as it gets old it gets harder
to remove completely so earlier the better.
i dont like the heated pipe way cause the plastic gunk stretches and sticks
to my window scraper. i just did it while the pipes were cool to the touch.
be careful when jacking up your car or while you're under there. make sure
you chock a tire if you're going to use ramps like me.
