cleaning brake dust

Up to this point I have been cleaning my rims w/ towels (and armor-all), but am getting tired of having to clean brake dust out of my dryer after washing the towels !!
Question : Will it hurt the rims if I clean them w/ paper towels instead of cloth ? Thought I read someone where using paper towels may actually cause very small scratches on the rims.
Thanks.

I use a sponge, and rinse it out when I'm done.

No, don't use paper towels, they will make small scratches, those rims are painted, am I right? I found out the har way on my first new car, I wiped something off the fender, and I had some tiny scuffed are from the towel, and I also believe, that is what has happened to some of the window tint you see that appears "hazy".

I use a product called Black Magic Wheel Wipes. I have been very satisfied.

Re: cleaning brake dust

abq,

i use some kind of wheel wipe (looks like baby wipe cylindrical package). then wipe dry/excess with paper towel. just a dusting.

you think that would scratch wheel?

Re: cleaning brake dust

Is there that much excess, what happens if you just let it dry? I'm not sure, but the wheel finish might be a bit harder than paint!

Re: cleaning brake dust

i wipe lightly with paper towel afterwards because it looks like i see a little white-foamy stuff (soap suds?) after i wipe. i don't put any pressure on it.

Re: cleaning brake dust

I just use wet paper towels, after each drive. It works great, and keeps the wheels looking clean, until I wash them again.

Simple Green works the best for me. Spray some on and hose it off. Works like a charm!

Re: cleaning brake dust

Really, Simple Green huh? Does it just dissolve the dust like that? I'll have to give that a try! I just bought a bottle of that, how does it do on the tires?

Re: cleaning brake dust

my g is not my daily driver. also, i only take it out when roads are dry. i took delivery mid sept, and now, 3 months later have about 550 miles. i wipe wheels every other time out.

sometimes i feel like an idiot for babying car so much

Re: cleaning brake dust

Damn, how can you only have 550 miles on a car like this? I enjoy driving it too much to miss a day!

Re: cleaning brake dust

i have a round trip commute of 110 miles. i won't beat up the g with that, nor do i want to use up premium gas. i have a sentra for that.

i also don't drive it in the rain. so, i use it on weekends and nights. although i might take her to work this week.
