Florida June Bug Juice Eats Through Effin' Paint?!?!
Hi everyone,
I just bought a 2004 G35 Coupe on Friday. I drove a little this weekend and went to wash and wax it today (it got washed at the dealership Thursday, but it's balck so it needed it already). I go to put the wax on the front bumper and I noticed the bug guts really had hammered it. As I got closer I noticed that they weren't stains, but marks were the paint was eaten away, like the bug's were filled with acid! Any ideas on how to protect against this outside of a bra? I'm going to have the whole bumper repainted now, but I'm gonna need something to protect it so the glossy paint doesn't get eaten away again. I really don't wanna put a bra on it, but if that's my only option, then that's better then the ugly marks. thanx

There is a thread on this in the South section.
Some people have used Pam or Vaseline. I used the latter when I lived there.
here it is

If you're in Florida and interested in getting a clear bra...go to this site. I had Allan Selligman do my clear bra so I would never have to worry too much about the love bug problem...
www.invincaman.com
The only other way to protect the front minus the clear bra would be to buy buy a bra from:
http://www.colgancustom.com/
I have that and the clear bra to protect the front of my car.

I have a Clear Bra but the bugs are still a big pain. You might want to try Turtle Wax spray bug/tar cleaner. The big advantage is that it leaves a wax finish when you are done.
It takes a little longer to remove them (let it soak a good 2 min) but not having to re-wax each time is a big advantage.
Not the kind of wax I would use for the best shine on the rest of the car, but at least it offers some protection for the front bumper without totally stripping off the finish from the last time I waxed it.
For things that are fairly easy to remove use your spray detailer as you would elsewhere (if you are not washing the car), but if you got a real bug mess on there this is great stuff.
