Should I re-tint coupe tomorrow?

I have the option of having the dealer's tinter to come to my house tomorrow, and remove the 28% I have so that I could go with a darker tint. He said it would be $120 for the change in total, and I am willing to pay this for a darker black tint, but am wondering if anyone had any suggestions or things I should mention to the guy.

Thanks,
-Eric

I would NOT have him re-tint just to get darker tint. Not unless there is something wrong. You will not believe what he will have to do to get the old one off and the amount of water, scraping the back glass especially to remove that one. When he is done your car interior will be a mess and the back shelf and everything there will be soaked in water.
It is going to be COLD this week, so it will make it that much harder to remove and take longer.

Again, I would not recommend it. But then it's your baby.

Merlin's right. It's like removing wallpaper. They have to spray a releasing agent and let it sit and then they get violent. Scraping and cutting and every other means they can think of to get it off.

I agree too. It is a real pain to get the old stuff off. My recommendation (if you can't live with the tint you have now), just have them apply a second layer of tint. That will make it darker.

I think it depends on how long the tint has been on there, back in '97, I had a new F-150, they had to retint the rear glass due to a defect, and when I took it over to show him, he just peeled it off, hardly any residue, it had been on there about 3 months already, in the summer!

Re: Should I re-tint coupe tomorrow?

This guy tints all the jaguar's, infiniti's, and volvo's on site at warren henry, and he said that because it is only a few months old it can come off easier, but it would still take awhile...
So he is here at my house doing it right now, and its going well, he took about an hour and a half to take the tint off the back window, and is now finishing putting the new tint on it...
He is very careful and I instpected the defroster, and its in perfect condition, not a scratch anywhere! He should be done in a another hour or two.

i'll post pics later of how it looks. I'm praying its good. haha
oh and i'll ask my eye doctor for a note of excemption next time i'm over there so that i have no trouble with the cops!

Thanks for the advice!

Re: Should I re-tint coupe tomorrow?

This guy's doing it for pretty cheap considering he has to go out to the customer's house to do it. For a job like that, we would charge $170. Word of advice, the rear brake light area is very tough to get to for cleaning any leftover adhesives.....if there's leftover glue behind the brake light then it will definitely show w/ the new piece of tint over it. That's where I'd be paying attention to. Good luck................one more thing, make sure he's tinting the rear w/ a one piece film. Some shops or tinters do 2-3 pieces of tint bc they are not familiar w/ shrinking.
