Which Towel is Better?
Which Towel is Better?
I found these two micorfiber towels online, but dont know which is better. I bought two of the grey ones about 4 months ago and they work well, but they really arent that absorbent. Is only bought it becuase I thought the "softer" characteristic would be better on my paint, but it seems as though I get swirl marks any ways. Has anyone had experience with the big blue one? Why is the blue more expensive? Here are the links:

Re: Which Towel is Better?
An auto detailer once told me that a synthetic chamois is better than the real thing on car finishes as the natural oils can streak and the chamois can actually strip away a bit of the finish, especially the polymer based polishes. I've been using my real chamois for the windows only and got an 'Absorber' and generally use my Cali Water Blade. The Turtle Wax brand 'Absorber-type' one is also supposed to work well and is cheaper.

Also, whether you decide to use a synthetic or genuine chamois, don't just bunch it up like a towel. Just grab it by adjacent corners and throw/drape/drag it over your car surface like a table cloth to dry your car.

I've bought a couple of Blue MF towels. They are great for dring a car. If you want something that dries better than the gray towels, go for the blue ones.
as far as the microfiber scratching or causing swirls, don't worry about that. All high quality Microfiber will not scratch/or cause swirls as long as you are using good washing/drying methods.

Here is the response I got from Sal Zaino concerning MicroFiber towels.
"I've been test the various Micro-Fiber products.
Unfortunately, the jury is still out on them..... Some of them I tested
are excellent and do not scratch... however some are terrible and
definetely scratch.. The quality control of these products from overseas
especially Korea is not consistent.. So you never know if they will be
the same scratch free quality...
Even when using the same brands, I
found the quality to be inconsistent.
It's a shame because I think the
concept is excellent...
For now I do not use them.... I'm still lab testing... Stay tuned..
NOTE: If you are already using microfiber towels.
Look carefully at your paint finish under flourescent light when you are using your towels. If
you are not getting any swirls or fine scratches, from the microfiber towels then you are okay
and can continue to use them... Remember it's better to be safe than swirly. "

I use chamois and no swirl marks at all. Besides, it soaks up the water pretty well. I am going to stick with it for now.

I have no problems with a chamois, as long as it's not brand new, they take forever to get the oil out of them, and then they start working better, seems the crappier they get, the better they work, but I haven't used mine in a long time. The microfiber seems good, but I'm not impressed with the way it cleans glass!

How are the quality of towels that Pakshak.com sell?
Are they any good? They seem to be the cheapest I have seen.

One thing with the microfiber, I notice if my hands are a bit rough, the towels seem to "stick" to the rough skin, am I alone with this? Yeah, the price at Costco was great!
