Debadging shadow

I took the infiniti lettering off the back of my sedan today because I hated the way it looked. I used hair dryer, and goo gone to get all traces off. Well, at certain angles you can still see the "shadow" of the letters. My car is brilliant silver. Do you think the paint has faded slightly and that is why I can still see the letters? I also used wd40 to make sure all the adhesive was gone. Any thoughts?

How old is your car? If it's spent some time out in the sun, it's probably due to paint fade. Depending on how much has happened, it may take a while to equalize.

6 months old. I'm in Colorado so the sun is intense here.

Re: Debadging shadow

I have the same problem, except it's on a black car which makes it's more noticeable. I took the letters off about 9 months after I got the car. Could a body shop do anything about it such as polishing it?

Re: Debadging shadow

Give it a month or so in the sun (what little of it there is in winter), and you should be okay. What color? BO may take longer than IP...

Yeah, BO smells worse too, especially in the sun....

Uh, what were we talking about again?

Hmmm, maybe you could just rub sunscreen around the outline and give it a suntan!

*smack*

Bad gordgee! I hate that my car color is BO, but whatever... at least it's not IP (think about it).

IP and I M proud of it!

Hmmm. Just remembered that time when I went out for a celebration party with our Volleyball team about 28 years ago. Something about salt in my beer, then barfing all over one of the guy's hand ( he was about 8 feet tall if I remember). Then I stumbled across the median in the road and I P'd all over the door handle of some guy's Caddie! We then went the place where Mr. 8 Foot's girlfriend was working as a coatcheck girl and almost got her fired.

All these otherwise lost memories, just because of some BO! Well, they say that smell brings back some of the strongest memories though!

Re: Debadging shadow

I have been told to try rubbing compound or wax to remove the microscopic adhesive residue from the clear coat. Will that damage clear coat?

Re: Debadging shadow

I removed mine from my year old black coupe.
I went over the surface 3-4 times with Meguires Cleaner Wax and now I can't tell they were ever there.........
