Should I wax my new G35 ??

So I am about to pick up my new G35 Journey ( Serengeti Sand ) and I'm wondering about waxing it.

Have any of you been inclined to wax your brand new G ?

Will it make a difference ?

If so, what might the best wax be ?

i use "NXT" wax. hahah i got it cause it had a picture of a g35 on it, lol i figured i couldnt go wrong. However, i dont think it needs waxing, yet. Just wash it and keep it clean and then in about a month or so go ahead and wax it. i waxed mine about 3 or 4 weeks after i got it.

I waxed mine with Zaino (multiple coats of Z2, then their new CR or CL, whatever it is), and pretty sure I did it within a week of getting it. From what others have said on the site, there's no wax or coating on the paint from the factory, so might as well start immediately.

Well, should I...........?

Let's make it easy for you, go to most any autoparts stores and buy Zymol
liquid wax. Price is between $16 to $19 which isn't bad, spend another $4
and get some applicator pads.....now to make life easy and keep you G look'in
good buy a couple Microfiber wipeoff towels. With a wash and wax the whole
process shouldn't take more than 2 hours......get started early (first cup of
coffee) then you'll have the remainder of the day to admire your car and the
fine job you did!

I waxed mine within the first week..and i have black.

Ive used nxt for a while which was pretty good, im a big fan of mothers pure carnuba as well.

I just tried out the turtle wax ice which I was actually a lil skeptical about using but figured wat the hell. Its actually really good and extremly easy to use. A friend of mine even commented like a half hour after I waxed it with ice..."holy **** your car is gleamin". I like it because it is extremly easy to apply and take off. And I did it in direct sunlight just to see if it was possible.

Yes, yes, and yes!

At delivery, the car will likely not have any kind of wax or paint protectant on it besides the clearcoat.

The dealer will likely say that nothing is needed for at least six months. This is BS.

I would wash/dry the car, do a coat of Klasse Sealant Glaze, wait a few hours, remove it. Next morning do the same thing. A week later, wash/dry, and do a coat of carnuaba wax.

Repeat the carnuaba wax every month for 5 months.

After a total of six months, re-start the above procedure but beginning with Klasse AIO.

Yes, you should most definitely apply some protection to the paint on your brand new G. I would strongly recommend that the first thing you do is clay bar your new G to get rid of all surface contamination like rail dust.

As far as protection goes, you have two choices. Apply a sealant or apply a wax. The big advantage of a sealant is that it is MUCH more durable than a Carnuba wax. A sealant will typically last 4-6 months, while a wax will typically last 4-6 weeks. So if you like the look of a Carnuba and don't mind applying it every month or so, you could go that way. But if you don't feel like applying protection to your G regularly, I would definitely recommend a sealant. You can also have the best of both worlds and start with a sealant, let it cure for 24 hours and then apply a coat of Carnuba over top of the sealant. This is what I do.

As for products, my personal favorites is Zaino Z2/Z5 for a sealant and Poorboys Nattys Paste Wax for a Carnuba. George (DetailedImage), whom is a sponsor here on the forum offers a 10% discount to all G35Driver members and is a fantastic guy to order from. www.detailedimage.com.

I hope this helps.

The best way to detail a car -

First wash your car with Dawn Liquid dish detergent to get rid of any wax, oils, and silicone on the paint.

Get a lubricant, soap and water. Then get a sandwich bag(those thin ones), not the zip lock kind. Put the bag around your hand and gently wipe the car while using a clay bar in the other hand. The trick is to use lots of lubricant per square inch.

After you apply the clay bar, wash your car with your favorite soap. Now your paint should be clear of any deformities. It's time to apply a sealant, I prefer polymer(Zaino) based rather than carnauba. Now you have show car!

Dawn liquid dish detergent (for wax, oil, etc. removal)
Zaino Z-7 Show Car Wash (for general car washing)
Clay Magic from the Auto Wax Company (for claying)
Big Blue Towel from Classic Motoring Accessories (for drying)
Zaino Z-5 Polish with ZFX (for paint sealing and protection)
Zaino Z-6 Gloss Enhancer (for use before and after each coat of Zaino polish)
MicroFiber Magic Towel from Classic Motoring Accessories (for buffing)

Actually, you didn't wax with Zaino......you sealed with Zaino. Zaino doesn't make a wax.

Good information. I take you mean put your other hand into the sandwich bag rather than stuff your arm into that tiny bag.

Something I learned from Picus112 is the best way to remove wax, oils etc was a 50/50 mix of isopropyl/water. I've used this numerous times now and think it's a much more sure way of preparing the surface than "Dawn" which I also used to use.

Did the complete job 3 days after I took delivery.
I didn't clay bar, but I washed, used a cleaner wax, and then applied a top coat of wax.
Next time around I used Klasse AIO followed by the Sealant, and then two top coats of P21S.

Use whatever brand you like, just use quality towels/microfibers so you don't scratch your finish....the idea is to make it better, not worse.
