Tint Laws listed by State!

I kept seeing a lot of requests for what the legal tint limits were... this is a link I found that breaks it down state by state.

Cool page.

It's wrong about CA though. The 2003 CA vehicle code prohibits any window tinting whatsoever unless you have a note from your doctor in your possesion stating that it's for medical reasons. Even then, the tinting must be quickly removable, such as affixed to a temporarily installed frame. Lastly, after meeting all the above requirements, the tinting device must not be used at night.

Hey Shader7,

Are you serious? I thought that the rules for Cali was that you had to have 70% light transmission for the windshield and front windows, and you could have anything in the back and rear windshield... That is why I see so many cars with back passenger tint without the front driver/passenger window tint out here. Looks pretty stupid IMO...

However, I was surprised to see the law from NY (where I'm from)... I thought that you were allowed 35% tint for the front passenger/driver windows and anything for the back.... Oh well...

Yea, it's been talked about here before. Here's a snip:

The devices authorized by this paragraph shall not be used during darkness.

(b) This section does not apply to any of the following:

(4) Side windows which are to the rear of the driver.

Re: Tint Laws listed by State!

I love Vegas! Apparently you can ony have up to 28% on the front sides, but thousands of people are driving around out here with limo tinted driver/passenger side windows and even winshields. It gets so hot, cops don't even give cars with super dark tint a second look.

Again, I'm glad I left California.
