terrier teeth marks

Greetings : Thanks to my faithful (and usually well-behaved ! )airedale terrier, I now have 2 teeth marks (small rips) in the upper leather of my rear passenger door. Each rip is approx. 1/2 inch long. Does anyone know the best way to fix these ? Would you recommend buying a repair kit somewhere, or seeking a professional repair job ? Thanks.

Re: terrier teeth marks

I have a feeling the only way to repair this is to replace the door panel, at least that's the way it used to be, but you can check around, that isn't leather there I don't believe.

I'll never understand why people keep destructive pets.Makes me wonder who's the master.

Re: terrier teeth marks

...pets can definately be unpredictable, so I empathize w/ ya there...

If the leather is ripped, they have kits that can fill the gaps, but they kinda suck. Just before I bought my car (used), some j@ck@ss broke the window to steal the original owner's stuff. The broken glass cut through the seat and door panel. The insurance company covered the repairs, but the repair company tried to get by w/ just patching the holes. It looked terrible. Thankfully, the original owner was even more **** than I am, and he fought w/ the insurance company to get both the passenger seat and the door panels replaced. He had to go back a third time to fight to get ALL the excess glass removed from inside the door...but that's a seperate story.

Sorry, I guess to sum it all up: A temp patch is ok, but you'll probably need to end up replacing the panels in the long run. The leather patches are ugly, and will eventually rip apart again.

Re: terrier teeth marks

NICNoobie, are the door panels leather as well, or just a good imitation? It's very hard to tell from the feel, I was checking mine today after reading this post, they almost feel like leather, Infiniti sure has their leather/vinyl down good, geez, on my Mustang GT, you could tell what was and wasn't leather, (the only thing leather was the front seating surfaces, entire back seat was vinyl, geez)

Re: terrier teeth marks

The company that tinted my windows (Winner's Window Tint in Rockville, MD) burned a hoel in the fabric (it is vinyl) and tried to fix it by replacing the vinyl piece. It looked horrible, it didn't match, and they further damaged the panel. I'm suing them for a new door panel. In short, I recommend replacing the door panel. The dog is another story....

Re: terrier teeth marks

Geez, how did they do that? Did they mention it, or just "neglect" to?

Re: terrier teeth marks

Perhaps use a dog crate to transport your beloved pets. Or just put them to sleep.

I will take the Airdale if that becomes an option. My sister had Airdale's. I have Scottish Terriers but your airdale would love to run on my 5 acres and dig gophers.

Re: terrier teeth marks

ABQ, they never actually said how it happened. I'm guessing it happend because they used a heat gun to speed the drying due to the auto roll down windows.

Re: terrier teeth marks

I've had a leather couch repaired by a furniture repair company after the movers punctured it. Maybe you could a similar repair. I also remember seeing vinyl and leather repair kits at Home Depot. I think those are basically a glue you put into the tear.

Re: terrier teeth marks

docmassage, Really, they have always just told me to not put the windows down for 48 hours! What got me the last time I had a tint job done, was they didn't clean the doors and such on the outside, and when I asked, they said it was so people wouldn't come back at them and say they scratched the paint, geez!

Re: terrier teeth marks

They told me about not rolling down my windows, but they said that they needed to heat the bottom portion of the tint because the windows go down about a quarter of an inch when you open the door. I really can't wait to get them into court.

Re: terrier teeth marks

Yeah, that sounds like a poor excuse to me, anytime they mess up a car doing something to it is bad news!
