Goodbye, fine scratches...

In Indy, I took care of my car like it was my child. Actually, better. Maybe that's why social services came and... nevermind, off topic. Anyway, now after a 3,000 mile trip to Vegas, it's got some battle wounds. Sand, dust, and general crud have slowly begun to get at my paint, and every time I've had it washed, it's swirled juuust a little more. CG protected me from swirls in Indy. I mean, really protected me. Never got 'em. But then I moved here and forgot my bottle of CG at home-- what was once a bi-weekly 15 minute application has now turned into a full-day, once-a-month process. Yes, I'm going Zaino.

As awesome as CG is at giving an amazing shine and protecting like glass, it only serves to magnify swirls if you have them. So if your car is polished and new, put it on NOW!! If it's getting a couple swirls... eh. I basically just want the polish from Zaino to hide the swirls, but I guess if I'm going to wax the eff out of my arm, I might as well go all the way, right? Time to bring back my baby's shine.

Any tips for a "newbie" who's already read all the Zaino posts and slowly grown deaf to it? As I understand the process, it's wash, Z1, Z2, Z3, Z4, Z5, Z6, Z4, Z8, Z12, Z22. Repeat.

Re: Goodbye, fine scratches...

how bad are the swirls/scratches? I suggest to use something like menzerna polishes or meguiars polishes to remove the swirls. Zaino can only fill in very light swirls. I personally like the shine Crystal guard gives better than zaino. My black paint is darker on more glassy with CG. You also want to consider trying out the new meguiars NXT tech wax. It produces an outstanding shine. The nice thing about it is it's available on wal-mart and advanced auto part for less than $15. Really worth a shot. That's a lot less money than going the zaino route that will give you the same results or even better. You may also want to talk to Jim from crystal guard. They're working on a new version of CGQ that will fill in swirls.

When they make a CGQ that fills in swirls, I'll jump on it in a heartbeat. For now, Zaino will work... I've seen the results of its filling in fine, fine scratches, and that's all I've got. Z5 fills them in nicely, and Z2 gives a nice shine on top of it. What's Meguiar's base? Carnuba?

GeoBau,
You probably have the same kind of brutal dust in Vegas as we have in Albuquerque, doesn't take long to start getting very small pits in the windshield around here, we have very fine volcanic sand here, that crap blows like powder, LOL, too bad it isn't as soft!

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the construction in Henderson. I'm curious to see how well the Zaino gets out some of those surface imperfections. I only had 2 very slight clear coat scratches and was considering having them buffed out. Zaino covered them up so well, I don't need to go that route anymore.

Construction here too, once they disturb the vegetation, forget it! Looks like Iraq or something on a windy day!

Monday night/Tuesday it did, got mostly rain/some snow in Albuquerque, but the surrounding mountains got a lot of snow, we would have too if the temp had been down a little more, it rained hard here for several hours!

Geobeu,
The meguiars nxt tech wax is pure polymer. It's also good in filling in light swirls and gives a deeper reflection than zaino. It'll give you're paint a very wet look shine and it's only a fraction of what you're gonna pay on the zaino kit. Hey, im also from vegas. If you have any questions just let me know.

Re: Goodbye, fine scratches...

Z-5 has little if any swirl filling properties in my experiences with my black G. NXT is a little better. To truly get rid of light swirls, you'll need to use a swirl remover from Meguiars or something.

Re: Goodbye, fine scratches...

I'll consider it after I do this I've seen countless zaino'd cars up close, and wouldn't get it unless it was 100% what I'd expect. I used CG for a long time, but once it does swirls I'll be happy. I'm not interested in polishing them out at the moment, simply filling them for the time being. When I want my car polished, it'll be a big day

Oh- where in Vegas are ya?

Hahah... It was either do Zaino now, or polish the car and keep it CG'ed. I'd prefer to stick with CG, but I suppose I need to go to the dark side until I can take proper care of it

Re: Goodbye, fine scratches...

oooh, you traitor! first you switch to the west forum and now zaino? what's next? buying a G coupe or 6MT sedan??? cross to that zaino dark side... i dare you.

haha. on a serious note, zaino'ed cars look beautiful. i just don't have the time to apply all the layers so i go with CG. i think you can't go wrong with either Z or CG. happy cleaning!
