upper winshield tint

Anyone do the window tint strip on the top of the front windshield or is that just old school. May not look too good but I like the way it blocks glare from the sun. If you did do it got any pics?

Re: upper winshield tint

Most tint shops should be able to do it. As for cost, we charge $39 for the front visor. I've seen some shops do it for as cheap as $25 and as much as $50. It really depends on the shop you bring it to.

Re: upper winshield tint

Yeah the tint shops here will do it too, The one that I go to for all my cars is asking only $20. But what I was really asking was if anyone did it on their coupe and how it looks. Does it look ok, or does it just look old school and out of date. The tint shop was telling me that no one does that anymore, out of style.

Re: upper winshield tint

I haven't seen anybody do it in years but you might be the first to bring the trend back.

Re: upper winshield tint

If yo don't mind the legality of it, have your entire windshield tinted.............that's what I've done to all of my cars. Feels great on those long drives down the California Coastline..........kinda like having really large sunglasses.

Re: upper winshield tint

Are you using the almost claer stuff on the windshield? Its just like an infrared barrier, maybe 15%? I have read about it but never seen any.

Re: upper winshield tint

i have the window stripe then i had the entire windshield tinted behind the stripe so it would show up. a lot of people have the stripe. i have 30% on the whole windshield and its not hard to see out or anything you dont even really notice it when lookin out, but when you try to look in its really dark and can barely see the steering wheel.

I have 55% tint on the front windshield..........very clear and provides the necessary heat reduction and 99% UV blockage.............good for the interior and the occupants.

Re: upper winshield tint

Hahaha, I'll keep working on improving my work......

Tinting the front windshield is actually pretty expensive for one reason...........a lot of work to protect the car's dashboard electronics. Pricing will also depend on what type of tint you get. Expect any good shop to charge anywhere from $130-$150 just for the front windshield. Several things to keep in mind for anyone considering the windshield tint:

-windshield cracking: any professional window tinting shop would be tinting by shrinking the tint w/ a heat gun........however, some places that do not have experience in tinting the front windshield may not know that the glass is actually laminated, which means, too much heat can crack it.
-getting water in the dashboard electronics, ecu, etc, can easily do thousands of dollars in damage.
-fix-it-tickets
-dust: having just a few dust particles would make it very annoying to the driver since you're looking through the front windshield all the time.
-The Gs rear view mirror leg is attached to the glass.........make sure the shop can get around that area w/ no problem

Hope this helps anyone even considering tinting the windshield!
