Detailing My G.

I'm in the process of claying my G and I'm stuck cause I ran out of detail spray. Since I don't want to go get some more right now I was reading on how I would need to rewash the car again after claying and then polish it.

Is polishing really necessary?

Also, can polishing be done by hand? (probably a stupid question)

Lastly, the only wax I have right now is Meg. Gold Class. Is this a good wax to use or should I go and get some good stuff from a detail shop?
I appreciate any advice anyone has to offer.

I'm a little confused about your question, you ran out of detailing spray so you are stopping or looking for an alternative lubricant? Yes, usually you want to rewash and dry the car after claying, and polishing isn't necessary but helps with the finish. Polishing can't really be accomplished by hand though, you need a machine polisher with adequate power and the correct pads such as a porter cable random orbital. As far as the gold class is concerned, its an okay product that will work fine, although if you want something over the counter that is better, go with Meg's #26 high tech wax or NXT

If you ran out of spray you can just refill the bottle with water and use that. You might want to add a dash of luandry detergent to keep it lubbed, but water should be just fine.

Well the water thing was good to know because I didn't know I can use it as an alternate lubricant. The previous owner of this G35 must've never ever washed it because there is alot of sticky stuff on the paint's surface. And I think the rear has overspray. It's really bad.

I clayed for about 2 hours and only got the hood, roof, top of trunk lid and spoiler done Yeah, I'm slow at claying but i want to be patient. It's suppose to rain tomorrow so the ride will stay in the garage while I use the wifey's TL ha ha ha. That way I can continue the detailing. I should finish up claying tomorrow and start waxing after that.

Any water/soap combo will work fine for a lubricant while claying your car. I just use the soapy water that i wash my car with whenever i clay my car.

As redlude97 said, polishing isn't necessary but you will still have swirls on your paint and claying can leave some micromarring. So no, you don't have to polish the car but the paint will never be at it's full potential unless it's polished.

I wouldn't use Laundry detergent with water to use clay lube. You should use 1:10 ratio of car soap to water. But wipe off after, you don't want to leave a film behind.

Well, here's the gunk that was all over my car. This crap was so hard to take off. I clayed for about 4 hours. It was real bad. Now the paint is smooth again

I decided to go with 3M's wax...the liquid. I don't really like it. It's a pain in the *** to take off. I'm going to order some Zaino. Which do you guy recommend? I'm thinking Z2 and Z5. Yay or Nay?
