Washing paint splats off the car
Washing paint splats off the car
Guys,
Need help here,
when I drove my G, I probably hit a can of paint or sth
but basically, the paint splattered all inside my tire compartment, and the pssg side of my car...
they're small white marks... most likely wall paint...
anyone know how to clean these paint marks without ruining the car paint finish.....tried the regular car shampoo....didn't work that well....

Sad G-owner

Re: Washing paint splats off the car
There is a product that will remove latex or acrylic paint, it's Goof Off or something like that, get it off soon! I don't get that crap, don't these [censored] painters have tailgates on their pickups, I see a lot of spilled paint on the roads anymore, geez!!

I washed yesterday...and I was desperate to get rid of the paint, I decided to use my nails/hand (didn't read your reply to get the goop-off stuff yet).....and .....I scratched a few areas....

do you think I can just wax-it and get rid of the scratches....
can i wax it myself? or do i need to go to professionals?
anyone know which body shop in LA area do that stuffs for cheap with good quality?

Re: Washing paint splats off the car
Claybar should remove it safely. Do it as soon as possible. Don't forget to wax or polymer seal after you clayed it.

Will the clay remove even a "splat" of paint? I thought jusy overspray and such was all it would do.

Re: Washing paint splats off the car
You are correct. Claying is good for removing overspray, but removing "splats" I'm not sure of. I wonder if using some
WD40 will remove it? That stuff works like a solvent almost like a tar remover.
Have you thought about calling a local body shop to ask their opinion? They can probably tell you what is safe and effective. The most important thing is to remove it as soon as possible.
Good luck and let us know what worked for you.

Re: Washing paint splats off the car
Just tried the Mequier Scratch-X yesterday....
didn't work that well....still can see the scratches...
hey..my friend have that small polishing machine that they sell on autozone or so....
do you think it's a good idea to use that? some of my friends suggested not to...cos those thing can make swirl marks...
about the clay....where can I get them?
and why is removing the scratch as soon as possible is that important? wouldn't it make no difference if I try to work on it like next week or so? would it make deeper scratch or more permanent marks ???

You can get a Claybar at Pep Boys or Auto Zone.
Removing the scratch as soon as possible is not what I meant. Removing the paint as soon as possible is what I was trying to emphasize.
If your scratches are deep or wide enough, Scratch X will not work. Its best used on veryl light surface scratches. It sounds like you need a professional body shop for your scratches.
