Tire dressing

What does it mean when a tire dressing is said to "sling" which is bad I assume. Does it mean "comes off when you drive"?

Re: Tire dressing

Yeah, it gets all over your wheels too, I had a serious problem with that using the Meguiars Endurance stuff, I haven't used it since! Funny, my G's tires have been nice and matte black since I bought the car 6 months ago, no dressing, I asked the detailer at the dealer what he used, it was in the showroom, and he said he just cleans them really well, they still look great!

Re: Tire dressing

I use the Mequires Hot shine with the 3 way spray pattern and haven't had any slinging problems. You just have to use sparingly.

Re: Tire dressing

Any time I use tire dressing.....I usually let it sit for a few minutes and wipe/buff off any residue....this usually gives me a nice matte shine with no build up problems on my wheel wells or wheels......

Re: Tire dressing

I use eagle1 gloss/wet look, with no problem. Spray on thick, let sit, wipe of wheels and I'm good till the next wash!

Re: Tire dressing

Best stuff I've used is Eimann Fabrik Black Sapphire Tire GEL applied with applicator. Got it here:

Re: Tire dressing

i use that black magic stuff, too. the only thing is it's a pain because my spray bottle must've cracked somewhere and now leaks from the top. so when i'm done my spray hand has the greasy magic stuff all over. i want to try that meguiar's (sp?) gel sometime though.

Re: Tire dressing

hey guys..

i just bought the megs high endurance high gloss tire dressing...i dont know what to think of it.

i got it cause i searched this forum and the overall sentiment is that this stuff is great. i put some on friday and it look alright. i think i wanted a glossier look. but when i drove on sat in the rain it spattered on my fenders and non of it was left on.

i was dissappointed. maybe i put on too much and i also didnt scrub my tires. maybe thats why it spattered everywhere.

so besides the megs high endurance, what else is good that is widely available. i been on detailcity.com and some of them say the poor boys stuff is good but i cant find it at normal stores.

Re: Tire dressing

I use Eagle One tire gloss. It works pretty good.

Re: Tire dressing

Tire Dressing takes the moisture out of the tire and could lead to sidewall cracking.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: Tire dressing

Unless it "removes the moisture" in less than 18-24 months (the life of our tires), it sort of doesn't really matter, does it?

Re: Tire dressing

Meguiars has a controlled spray, easy to put on, hard to come off. I have used the high endurance on my SUV, to much like all the others but with a higher cost.

Re: Tire dressing

Before my switch to the semiconductor arena, I was an analytical chemist for Armor All, doing reverse engineering of competitor products. I did this for 11 years.

Where did you hear tire dressings absorb moisture from the tire? That's absolutely incorrect. Almost all of them are very hydrophobic suspensions or clear micoremulsions of silicone oils, and and in fact repel water like a demon.
