So I picked the car up on Friday evening. Just about dusk, so I didn't get a chance to see it in direct sunlight. Yesterday I finally get around to washing the car, and as the sun peeks out from behind a cloud, I get direct sunlight.

To my disbelief...the ENTIRE car is covered in fine scratches. It almost looks like whomever owned the car before me decided to wash it with a 20-year old wash mit that sat on the garage floor...for the entire 20-years.

Any recommendations on removing/repairing all of this mess? Also, would you recommend a Sealant or a Wax for a Twilight Blue car?

Time to go after em with a PC, flex, UDM, or similar. The buffer will be able to take out the swirls.

As for sealant vs wax on your car, check George's sticky on waxes/sealants, and Picus's sticking on caring for your ride. Personally, i use a sealant base for the protection and a spray wax topper just to keep it beading up till i reapply sealant. Wax just erodes too quickly for me, and I'm lazy

 

if it's still light outside when I get home I'll grab the DSLR and see if that will capture pics of the marring....it really is terrible.

The front bumper looks like it sat behind a damn wood chipper... :'(

I'm thinking an aero kit is in the near future >=)

...wow. Do you realize what section you're in? Most of us here take pride in what our cars look like and prefer to get RID of swirl marks when they appear. Yes, they are inevitable, but they can be removed.

**** much?-yes, as a matter of fact I am pretty **** about the care of my vehicles' paint. I consider it maintenance to clay bar the car at least once a year. Would you go 20k miles without changing your oil? I didn't think so. So why let your paint go unmaintained?

 

i think protecting your paint is great, but i have yet to come across a daily driven car that doesn't have swirls. this story touches home base just a touch, my buddy has a zo6 he made the mistake of taking it to a drive thru wash and whatta ya know swirl-o-rama, he repainted his entire car the same color and if you look at it today, still has fvcking swirls, guess what i asked him?

If he repainted his car and still has swirls something went wrong. Unless he has since then swirled the new paint.

The 3m clear bras are a god given gift. If I get the bumper repainted, or I replace it with an aero, either way, it's getting a 3m bra. I'll have the hood resprayed too, and the entire thing coated with the 3m.

 

you need a dual action polisher at least. id go with the meguairs g110 or the flex. both have more power than the pc. then you need some polishing pads and some finishing pads. as for products you can start with m80 from meguiars. if two passes dont work with that step up to m83. then finish with m80 or m09. then top your work with a nice paint sealant. after than has cured lay down a couple coats of wax.
