Ghetto floor mat cleaning
So there I was scrubbing away with those household foam floor mat cleaners with the brush attachment that you can find in the automotive section of supermarkets. It had been a couple of years since I last cleaned my floor mats and these things were nasty looking. I had scrubbed to exhaustion and the cleaner barely scratched the surface of the grime on there. I knew there had to be a better way.
While on the throne, I had an epiphany. I've got powertools. There has to be an easier solution. I started searching for a rotary brush attachment. Most places had them, but they were mainly metal wire brushes or the brush head was so small, I'd never get the job done. I needed a soft bristle brush with a large enough surface area to get the job done efficiently.
That's when I found this:
The description said it was for cleaning glass and metal, but it was listed as a soft bristle brush with a 4" diameter. Only $17 here:

Using my cordless impact wrench, I had this sucker going at 2700 RPM with 100 ft/lbs of torque. I soaked the floor mats in laundry detergent for about an hour and went to town. The amount of foam this thing generated was amazing. But the best part was the color of the foam. Nasty brown/grey! It was getting the job done. I kept rinsing and resoaking until the foam stayed a bright white.
My floormats look factory new now! Except for the driver side. I think that one has too much wear and tear on it, but it still looks pretty damn clean considering the abuse.
After my great success, I went ahead and bought three more of these brushes. Gonna use one to clean my leather and another to clean the grout out of my bathroom tiles.
Power tools FTW!
