Soft paint????

I have read posts recentlly referring to how G owners don't like the "soft factory paint" on our cars. Is it an issue that I wash my car mostly at a DIY car wash with the handheld pressure washers? Just curious as to what you all think. Thanks!!

just make sure the pressure isnt too high. you can peel more paint off around paint chips with high pressure. i have friends who have paint chips and use the local DIY wash with no problems. just becareful and keep a close eye on your paint

Also when there talking about soft paint. There talking about the Clear coat most of the time. Unless they got there car painted with single stage paint. Then you actually might have "Soft paint".

^ +1, it's actually the clear coat people mean. But, with proper care, you shouldn't have any problems with your paint. Also, make sure the pressure on the washers isn't too high. Probably no more than 2000 PSI. If you have any rock chips in your paint and that high pressured water gets under your paint, it'll strip off even more paint.

Also, remember that many of those places use stronger soap than the car wash soap you would use to wash by hand. It can strip wax or sealant faster than hand washing. Also, due to local regulations, many of those places recycle the water used, which can lead to using less than clean water to clean your car. However, if the choice came down to using a touchless car wash such as you suggest or an automatic "soft cloth" carwash, I'd always go touchless unless you want major swirls.
