FOR PAINT EXPERTS

Had the car in for a fender bender, basically left rear fender..
Klasse'd the car last weekend and thought everything was fine
but noticed today in the sun, that the part that was repainted
did not seem like the rest of the car. You see the reflections
very clearly on the rest of the car but on the new paint, its
not as clear, more hazy I guess. The lines of the reflections
are not as defined, guess its like looking at something without
glasses then with my glasses, I hate dealers, of course they
washed it and put in some nice swirl marks and left some white gunk on the rear speaker cover that does not seem to come out, they already did the car twice to get it right..I love the car but all 3 dealers that I have dealt with stinkBTW its a
black car...

Re: FOR PAINT EXPERTS

If the description is correct, the place you had the car painted either didn't wetsand that area down before buffing or they just didn't polish up that area well enough. Take it back to the shop and have them look @ it. If you could, take some pics and post it here..............get some close ups so I could give you a more accurate solution to this problem.

Do you have orange peel? What I mean is when you look at the clear coat, can you see designs that resemble and orange peel? If so, he is right, you have to wetsand it and then buff it out. That is why you don't see a clear reflection.

Personally, I wouldn't wetsand it and try to buff it out. If is really that orange peeled wetsanding it may not work or you will have to bring the paint down a lot to completely remove it. And in addition there are several other conditions that might explain the condition of the repair. My advice is have them do it again. They probably will just wetsand it and then shoot another clear coat which may or may not remedy the situation depending on the true nature of the problem. Let us know how it turns out.

No, don't see orange peel, just the defination is not there, like
don't see the lines on my face as much as I do on the rest of
the car, just not has defined just not as clear Will go to my bodyshop and get his opinion, I hope its just a matter of more polishing...

If it seems hazy, then they didn't do a good job of polishing it up. Quick fix, just bring it back to them to buff that area.

Re: FOR PAINT EXPERTS

The problem is I have lost all faith in them, this would be the
third time. I gave it a good cleaning on the weekend and have
found some tape on the inside of the rear door, the stuff does
not want to come off then the speaker in the same rear door
has white spots stuck on some of the holes of the speaker
cover. I have the cable porter polisher but no experience yet..

Re: FOR PAINT EXPERTS

DO NOT PRACTICE ON YOUR G WITH THE POWER BUFFER!!!!!
You will do more damage than good.......try using a extra fine rubbing compound followed up by a good polishing compound....then try waxing it again.....maybe the paint is not fully cured....sometimes in the drying process the finish tends to cloud slightly....
If they already buffed that area it makes no sense to do it again.
try going the slow and easy route first.....you can always attempt to bring back the shine.....and do no damage to your surface in the process.......Just my .02

Re: FOR PAINT EXPERTS

The porter cable he is refering to is an orbital polisher. The only way he will damage the paint with an orbital is to drop it on the car.

Re: FOR PAINT EXPERTS

wil is right, they left compound on the car. It needs to be buffed with a finishing glaze. By all means take it back, or complain to your insurance company.

Re: FOR PAINT EXPERTS

I will not try to fix it myself, but I did take it to another dealer
today for something else and got the body shop guy out to look at it, his first impression was that it was not polished
enough, it was quite clean but for a light dusting of dirt that
he pushed away with his hand amd pointed out groves in the
putty, you can actually see the groves, I will go back to the dealer that did the job and speak to the boss in service that
runs the mini bosses, man I'm pissed...this will be the third time.., thanks guys for your support, love the car, love this site
and hate dealers...BTW where I was parked there was another black sedan beside mine with a big note on the dash
which said THIS CAR IS IMMACULATE PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND WATCH THE PAINT ......&&^%$% dealers
