Door dings

How much do bodyshops normally charge for fixing a door ding. I got an estimate yesterday and they wanted $500 for a half dollar size dent! They gave the panel has to be removed, reworked, masked, prepped sprayed, yadayadayada....

What part of your auto insurance actually covers damage by shopping cart or parking lot idiots.

Re: Door dings

Just got another quote from another shop today. $706. OMG.

Dentless repair would probably not do since I need paint fixed as well.

g35shopper,

find a place that does paintless dent removal and ask for their opinion/quote. If they can fix it, it will be in the 100$ range and it will not require repainting.

Re: Door dings

My understanding of dentless repair is that it only applies to what they consider soft dents which means no damage to paint and no creases. They might be able to pull the dent but the paint is shot. Right through the primer.

G35Shopper---if the paint is no longer on the door you don't really have any other option of repair other than getting the door repainted. Are you certain the paint around the ding is not from the other car? Sometimes you can get the ding removed with paintless dent repair and then buff out the scratches associated with the ding. I would certainly try that first. Contact your Infiniti dealership and get the name of the person who does paintless dent repair...I would surely try that before I went for an actual repaint. I use PDR on a regular basis and am often surprised with the results. Sorry for your ding. :-(

Re: Door dings

Forgot to mention the insurance aspect....if you do end up getting a repaint done and claiming it on insurance you will end up paying only half of your deductible. It is considered a "no-fault" claim. I guess that is one positive aspect of this situation.

Re: Door dings

A bit of explanation on this "no fault" thing is appreciated. Called my agent he seems to think that it would be covered under collision and not comprehensive. Now I regret jacking my deductibles from 100/250 to 500/500!

Re: Door dings

The paint is no longer on the door. The actual ding is barely noticable but the paint is ruined from my touch-up job. <<< dumb-donkey! I was thinking about just getting a shop to bondo the chip and paint to match without having the actual ding repaired. Most of the cost of the estimate was remove and install body panels. I figured it should save quite a bit of change if no panels were removed and just have the paint refinished. Any bodyshop experts here?

Re: Door dings

What I mean by "no fault" is that the claim falls under comprehensive and NOT collision coverage....thus you pay only half of your deductible.
