Dealership Detailing

Hello, I stopped buy Nissan the other day to get my oil changed and saw that they offered two detailing package (one about $60 and one $100). I was wondering if it is worth going to a dealership to get your car detailed.

Usually dealership details are pretty bad, unless they're sourced to another company. If I were you, I'd either ask for pictures of past details that prove their skill; otherwise, find an independent detailer (whose past work you can also take a look at).
Use this link [not sure whether or not it will pull up detailers in your area]:
http://www.detailuniversity.com/find-a-detailer/

You'll probably find that independent detailers charge more, but they're usually way better than the stealership.

If you have the time, research and detail it yourself. I find that this option is the most gratifying, as you can definitely appreciate the work you do yourself. Gotta warn you though, detailng isn't as easy as it appears.

Good luck to you. The detailing package from your Nissan detailer seems way too cheap to warrant a quality detail.

I used the link and found no detailers in my area. I would do it myself but since I am in college, I don't really have the time (it takes about 3 hours to wash my car). The dealership said that the do try to remove the swirl marks when they polish. I will ask them more about their work when I come back home during thanksgiving week.

bummer man... where do you live anyway?
that site is not at all an end-all list for detailers... but it definitely logs the good ones.

"trying" to remove swirl marks is not the same as actually removing them. hell, they could just cover up the swirls with wax or glaze (very temporary fix). or they could be very bad at polishing and leave you with hazing and/or hologramming (I say this, again, because of the price of the detail; a rotary machine in the hands of a newb is absolutely horrible for your paint).

if there are no detailers in your area, and you are interested in learning the process/have time, you could make some mad bank. no joke.

good luck, again.

we do our details and new cars all by hand, and your cars are washed by hand when you bring it in for service. for a full detail we have a pro come in and get it done, which he does amazing work.

me personally, i rather go to a pro detailing shop and pay a few bucks more knowing he'll spend the time to do it

I would never trust a dealership to do a detail to my car. I know too many people who work at some either in Parts or Service and they always tell me how their detailers are just simple 17-21 year old kids who don't even know what a PC is. They always drop rags and continue using them. I've had to correct a good amount of cars that were detailed at local dealerships around here.
