Engine compartment cleaning
Engine compartment cleaning
Hi all!
Wanted to post an FYI here. Just cleaned my engine compartment today. I've got 23,000 miles on my sedan and after doing this, the compartment looks the closest it ever has to the day I brought home the car in November of 2002. I took it to a hand detail place in town and they high pressure sprayed and steamed it. Overall that just didn't do it for me and there was still a bunch of gunk in the compartment where grease and oil deposits were. After I brought it home, I took a bottle of Orange Glow heavy duty degreaser and finished the job myself. I cooled the engine down first real good with water then proceeded to spray the Orange Glow on all the parts where there were deposits. Over the winter I had a belt go bad and it sprayed belt dust all throughout the engine so there was black dust on nearly every part of the engine compartment. After spraying the Orange Glow and letting it sit for about 10 minutes, I went to work with a tight weave cotton cloth and started rubbing the crap off the metal and hoses. Much to my surprise after a few good rubs, the grease and grime seemed to melt away and really clean up the compartment nice. I would spray again then rub some more then rinse off with fresh water really well once clean. For the tight areas, screw heads, and crevasses I got a soft bristle tooth brush and brushed off the gunk. It actually worked amazingly well! Overall I was quite impressed with this product and the way it cleaned and degreased the metal and hoses in the compartment. Tomorrow I'm going to go over the hoses and rubber with some protectant to give it a glossy look and then I'm going to take pictures and post them here. I never thought I'd get rid of that belt dust in the compartment and I cannot believe that it was as easy as it was! Kudos to Orange Glow heavy duty degreaser!!! For $3.99 and using basically a whole botte to degrease the compartment and an hour of my time, it was an hour very well spent!
