I was thinking about using mothers to polish my volk rims. Is that a bad idea or will it damage the coat and scratch the rims?

Supposedly, You can use the Mothers plastic polish on clear coated wheels. That is what it said when I bought my Mother's power ball that came with a bottle of metal polish and one of the plastic polish. I have only used 3M Perfect-It on mine before a good coat of wax to remove the fine scratches.

Only use the Mothers wheel polish IF the wheels have been polished and the clearcoat removed. Otherwise just use regular car wax after you've cleaned them.

I used it on my g35 chrome rims when I got them. Since they were badly damage from waterspots. The mother powerball got rid of the watermarks like nothing.

I am pretty sure the polished lips on the volks are anodized. I dont think it would be a good idea to use metal polisher's or acid's on them because it will just dull the reflective look.

+1 volks are anodized, you cant use a polish...use wax lie wheel wax or poorboys

Ok in my case since my wheels were stripped and repolished, what kind of preventative care do I need to do?

well if it has been re-clearcoated, I would only use soap+ water, then some carnuba paste wax to protect the clearcoat. Dont use any strong acid's or abbrasive polisher's because I am sure they will just thin out the clearcoat or make the finish foggy.Originally Posted by Dem1K

Ah ok...
I was under the impression that once Volk wheels are stripped and repolished, you have to hand polish them quite often. Is that only if they aren't clear coated as well?

If wheels are clear coated, than dont use a metal polish on them. If they aren't, then use the proper metal polish based on what finish is on the rims. Since most rims are clear coated, you CAN use similar polishes on them as you would on paint. To protect rims, its best to use a sealant. You can use wheel specific sealants, but regular paint sealants will work just as good.

Any that you recommend? Ive just been cleaning them every 1-2 weeks with soap & water, and then Meguiar's Quik Detailer
