Synthetic coat on top of carnauba?

I just detailed my car this weekend. I got a paint selant and a carnabua wax applied and it looks really great! However, I was told that the wax may only last about 2 months. I usually use Zaino products but this time around I used Maguires. Has anyone ever heard of applying a Zaino coat (synthetic wax) on top of carnauba wax? I was told this wasn't a good idea and that typically it done the other way around where a synthetic is applied before the carnauba. Any thoughts on this and how I can keep my just-waxed look for a longer time?

for starters, zaino won't bond on top of carnuba. i'm pretty sure most synthetics will not bond to carnuba.

i use a acrylic polish Klasse AIO as a base coat and then top it with carnuba. you shouldn't put anything on top of carnumba but carnuba!

No you can't. Synthetic sealents chemically bond to your cars paint or to another synthetic (thus you are able to layer multiple coats of Zaino). But it won't bond to a natural wax because of the oils it contains.

your best bet is to put the Zaino first, let it cure for a week and then apply the wax. Waxes usually bond physically (not chemically) so it should stay on the car.

by the way, most waxes don't last more than a month. If you are in the sun, rain, ect the wax washes out or melts away.

AntRock, sorry, I was replying to eddie - too lazy to go back up to the first post reply button I guess. Personally I wouldn't put carnuba over Zaino, Liquid Glass etc. for added shine (if true) because before you can put another coat of that superior under protection on, you would properly need to strip the carnuba off with a cleaner. Too much work - I would rather just spend the effort putting on another coat of Zaino.

i agree with dholly, if you put wax on top of zaino, the next time you want to put another layer of zaino you just created more work for yourself since you have to remove the old wax first (dawn wash).

Re: Synthetic coat on top of carnauba?

I don't know anything about Zaino, except that it's the best, and I don't have all day for several days to clean and wax my car. First I tried Meguiars NXT and wasn't that impressed, so I then applied Pinnacle Liquid Souveran on top and was very impressed. However, I still had bad hard-water spots and swirl marks...very annoying. So finally, I found another very effective synthetic/carnuba alternative which many people recommend.

As I understand it, the Klasse AIO strips off the old coats of wax, and many have recommended the Klasse AIO/Pinnacle Souveran combo. Yes, the Klasse AIO (synthetic) goes on first as a base coat and the Pinnacle Souveran carnuba wax is applied on top. This is what I did between yesterday and today; only I used the Pinancle Liquid Souveran carnuba wax instead of the paste wax, and it still came out awesome!!! I needed to get rid of some hard-water spots and swirl marks (especially on the hood and rear spoiler), which the Klasse did to my surprise, very effectively; then, topping it off with a coat of the Pinnacle Liquid Souveran carnuba just makes it like glass - deepens the black and provides a great mirror finish ;-)

I was told the Klasse should help it last a bit longer, but I'll probably put another coat of the Pinnacle Liq. Souveran on in a month or two. As do many others, I too highly recommend this synthetic/carnuba combo!!

See Page 3 of this thread (bwt - When I started out using the Meguiar's NXT and wasn't happy with the results on my black G35, I tried it on our Copper FX35 and it worked great)...

Attached above is a picture after I applied the Klasse AIo yesterday and the Pinnacle Liq. Souveran carunba wax today (below is an old picture part of my signature - with just Maguiars NXT before new combo waxing)...
