Re: Recommendations for scratch/ding kit
Whatever you do, don't buy that crap they sell on the infomercials. Those are a joke.
Have you checked with any of the dent removal places? They can tap out the ding without any sanding or painting. Then maybe you could use some touch-up paint for the scratch, depending how big it is.

I just dont know where to go in NY that isnt real expensive, im about to go looking tomorrow for places and prices. I would also never use any infomercial stuff on an expensive nice car like the G35. Martin

Re: Recommendations for scratch/ding kit
After tons of research (which little was found), I determined that what most ppl are doing is buying the factory touch up paint and using Lanka to smooth the touch up paint out. The combo works good, but it VERY difficult to perfect the method. Basically, you use the factory touch up paint to blob the scratch, nick, ding. Then let it cure for at least 3 days (although the touch up paint will dry almost instantly). The lanka is a special compound that basically disolves the touch up paint after a few seconds of contact. You then lightly (I mean VERY lightly) rub the lanka on the touch up paint to smooth away the blob until its even with the rest of the paint. I had to do this 3 times cuz the Lanka is so strong and if you don't let it cure for a few days, the Lanka will just take off the touch up paint entirely leaving you with the original mark. Be sure you follow the instructions on using a cotton cloth that does not have any lint on it because it will get caught in the touch up paint which will cause you to rub harder and making you redo the entire process. But if you do right, it looks pretty good, not perfect, but more like a dirty spot on your car then a nick.
Other than what I have posted, ppl have just waited until their car gets bad enough where they repaint. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. GL

Re: Recommendations for scratch/ding kit
I had the same thing happen in my car. The thing is, sometimes the scratch is kinda rough so even if you put the touch-up paint and use this lanka stuff, it still seems to me that the spot that was scratched is still kinda not-smooth. Does anyone have any experience with perhaps sanding that spot smooth first before applying the touch-up paint? I'm talking about the area the size of a nail head so I don't want to make it worse by sanding a larger spot. Any info?

Re: Recommendations for scratch/ding kit
I got a nice ding (quarter size) 3 days after I got my coupe. I used a paintless dent remover guy who came to my house. He did a great job and you can't tell there was ever a dent! If you like, I can track down the info. Keep in mind he can only remove the dent, he can't add paint. I would let him take the dent out and see how it goes from there. He worked for about 45 minutes or so on my dent. They don't use anything like you see on TV. They have these tools that helps them bend the metal out from the inside. I had a hook up so it only cost me about $100 but I think the normal rate is about $125 or so.

Hey Martin, are you going to be at the LI meet? If you are, I'll try and bring you the contact info for the guy that did my ding. (that sounds kinda wrong.....you know what I mean).
Quick question, how do you get the picture and info after your posts....posted. Is that retyped everytime or is there a "stationary" feature on this site?

Re: Recommendations for scratch/ding kit
Diesel i'll be at the LI meet this sunday. As for the Signature, it's stationary meaning I don't have to type it in everytime lol. On the left toolbar in the site go to edit profile, basic profile then go down to signature and write in whatever you want. To add a picture put [image] the link [/image] and it will appear. See you sunday, Martin
