If the paint you put on the quater panel go's to the door, trunk, ect then it will not match perect unless you blend the door (99%) There are a lot of paint lines out there PPG, Dupont, Spies, Sickens, MartinSeinior, ect. I could name 20 more. If you mix the same color on each system and paint them next to each other they will look different. One might look lighter, darker, yellower, bluer, ect. I could go on more about the theory of color but your painter all ready knows it or he does'ent. We will see.

You can match a color 100% but it takes time, and skill. It will take much much less time to blend and be 100% happy.

The paint is a two step process. You have a base coat and a clear coat. They must be done at the same time. The base must be "tacky" to make the clear coat stick. It is NOT for someone in their garage unless they have lots of experience with metallic clear coats. Also you must paint the entire panel, blending clear coats just does not work.

Not true. How do you use a tack rag on wet base? or sand out dirt in the base? You can base something then clear it the next day if you want if there is no hardener in the base.

And yes if you know how you can blend the clear. Im sure PPGfreak has done this everyday at work.

naught240 is right. How would you tack, clean, sand or do a two-tone if its tacky? Not trying to start a fight, there are a lot of paint lines so mabey thats one I dont know.

I blend clear all the time! I would not tell some one to do it because its very tricky to do it so you cant see it or have it peal off. I work at a New car Dealership, we have a used/lease turn in lot as well so on those cars I blend clear on all the time! I can paint/clear part of a quarter, bumper, door or even a hood and you would never know.

Just wanted to add that all paint is not a two step process. Some are a one,two or three.

One- single stage paint
two- base coat and clear coat
three- base coat, tri-coat, clear coat (tri-coat is pearl, candy, ect)

All I know is what the best body shop in south texas (voted best of the best 10 years running) told me when they did my G. Base and Clear go on right after each other and I defy you to figure out which panels have been repainted.
