Drying the G with a Toro Leaf Blower

Now my neighbors REALLY know I'm nuts! After washing the car with just a sponge and running water, I (quickly) dry it with a leaf blower -- works great! I tried the Mr. Clean AutoDry, but it was (literally) like watching paint dry.

So I canned that gizmo and broke out the old Toro. I got to tell you, it works like a charm. No more chasing water beads out of the side view mirrors, wheels, or door creases. While the car's still wet, I blast it with the Toro, then give it a quick wipe down to get the remaining water off.

Now I do it with the garage door down as my neigbors used to laugh and throw things at me when they saw it the first few times. Now they just shake their heads and say "he's so weird about that car" and when the hear the Toro getting fired up.

I'm in a 12-step program now for my clean car addiction...

Does the AutoDry leave water marks all over the car when it dries that slowly? Or can you actually just use it and let it sit for a little bit?

Lol! I use my Toro all the time too. Neighbors think I'm nuts... After Zaino treatment the water just slides right off with the blower then I just quick wipe.

the theory behind the auto dry is that water contains minerals and other particles which leave spots. this uses a filtr so none of it is left.

if you wash the car and thoroughly rinse with this filtered water, there is nothing to leave spots

Ditto here. I learned it in the Acura CL forum a few years ago. It works well if you car surface is slick. But if you don't wax your car often, it takes much longer and you are better off just to chamoi it.

what if we duct taped the leaf blower to the bottom of our g's by the exhaust? wouldn't that give us like a 3HP increase? i mean that extra push has gotta do somethin ya know?

I use my leaf blower all the time and I don't mind being called crazy. At least I won't have water spots! You have to admit, it's the best thing to dry your wheels with.

Guys,

Just kidding about "they throw things at me." The only thing they throw at me is weird looks.. :-]

I'm glad to see I'm not the only insane one out there that uses the leaf blower for drying the car. I thought that maybe I HAD lost my mind using El Toro!

I'm likin' the idea of strapping that bad boy to my exhaust too. 'Course, I'd need a mighty long extention cord...

Re: Drying the G with a Toro Leaf Blower

the leaf blower works great and as someone else said the car needs to be nicely waxed for the water to bead off all the way. so i use the leaf blower for 3 reasons: to minimize swirl marks, get the car dry in all the nooks and crannies, AND when the water quits sheeting off well i know it's time for another wax job.

don't care what my neighbors think. i think they are nuts for using a leaf blower on their lawns. i would never do that. a broom is quiet and you get some exercise. i hate listening to leaf blowers for hours when the lawn services come through.

Re: Drying the G with a Toro Leaf Blower

I use my toro the opposite.

I dry the car with towels first then I go back over it with the blower to clean out the mirrors, door handles, fuel door and around the trunk lid/tailights. After that I wipe up the additional water found by the blower. This method seemed to work faster for me than trying to blow off the water... Maybe it just wasn't waxed enough.

I had NXT on the car but now that I've switched to Zaino I think I'll try the blower first next time.
